Ratlings!

...well, almost.

Uh, so after polling everyone about non-rat pet options, I promptly cried myself to sleep for two days and decided I was not yet ready for Ed-rat to be my last rat. The new plan: get two baby boys. (I SO want those squishy adult guy rats. But if they die and Ed-rat dies all in a row I will be heartbroken. Also, reasoning for not transitioning directly to new non-rat pets right now is that I don't have enough resources financially to do so, and that would probably cover the older guys' vet bills as well.) When baby boys are a year or two older, transition to non-rat pets (probably guinea pigs, based on people's descriptions, my living circumstances, and etc.).

Alas and alack, I was due to get two baby boy rats today, and although I got to meet one, the other one had apparently escaped into another cage while in the car and couldn't be found until the rescue person had left. Still, I should have them by tomorrow night, and this gives me time to switch the cages around, since the baby boys are a LOT smaller than I thought they'd be. (FIVE WEEKS OLD OMG. They are as small as wee little mice!!!!!! They have giant gallumphing awkward feet!)

Poor Ed sniffed around very excitedly, and then realized there were no actual new rats. I think he is old and lonely without Al; he's been acting fairly neurotic lately, and I worry about him. Even if he doesn't get along with the new babies, hopefully having them in a cage next to his will help out.

Anyway! The real question is, what should I name the new ratlings?

They are both going to be black hooded boys, albeit with slightly different markings, thank goodness. I have zero idea about their personalities yet, so I'm just looking for random ideas.

I am not good at this because it is not my passion, but maybe name them after manga artists/writers? I know you've often named them after characters, and that would be a twist.

They are SO CUTE AND TINY!!!!!! Even their droppings are cute and tiny! (Okay, that might have been gross, but it is true!)

Rilina has suggested Kenji and Otcho as names, HEE!

Yah... I am also worried about Ed being alone and hopefully knowing the two new boys will be the Last Rats (a la Little Princess' the Last Doll) will help with the transition.

Good luck with them! I got most of my rats when they were that young. If I remember right, the first month or so was always terrifying. I always got two, and they would always run as fast as they could in opposite directions whenever I took them out.

I love my kitten, but I will definitely miss having rats. There's something fantastic about watching a rat grow up and learn to trust you and snuggle with you.

They are so cute and tiny! I don't think I have ever had ratlings that young before! Or maybe I had Fitz-rat and Fool-rat that young, but that was a loooong time ago.

I love the ratties so much. I just... need to transition after this or else I will be crying my eyes out every two years =(.

Tiny ratties eeeee! I hope Ed likes them as much as he thinks he will. Kenji and Otcho would be great. Have you had a Naruto pair yet? Or Kurogane and Fai? Or Watanuki and Doumeki? Many options for many possible personalities, and also you can tell what I've been reading lately. :)
