I have food coma from our potluck, made lemon souffle successfully at last (and I turned on the oven!), and there will be karaoke tomorrow! I always miss being in Taiwan this time of year, but knowing other people around me here celebrate as well—crowds at Ranch 99, people on DW and LJ, friends in the area—makes it so much better.

And I keep trying to think of something to post for the Asian Women's Carnival, especially for new year, but there are never enough words.

Oh, aha! On my epic walk yesterday, while I waited at a stoplight, I heard several blocks down the street from me a single drummer. I looked and all I could glimpse was something yellow-and-red (obvs., a dragon) boinging up and down in a vaguely familiar pattern over the traffic. (Just the one, as I assume the parade must have been in another neighborhood.) And I thought to myself, Self, is somebody just having a really enthusiastic opening of their new car sales emporium? Although intellectually I know that lunar calendars shift due to, you know, the moon, I am pretty bad at remembering that on a practical level. So I'd assumed the lunar new year had already happened in January, and I'd just somehow managed to miss it.

Anyway, happy new year!

It is usually around the end of Jan., but it's pretty late this year. I always have to look it up some time in Dec. or something.
