On the other hand, I keep thinking that almost all stories I read about racial tension have a killer/hater from the side being discriminated against and how those stories frequently use that character to do the "See, both sides do it!"
Ditto. I always think it would be more interesting if the side being discriminated against chose appropriate targets; and then we'd have questions about vigilante justice, and non-egalitarian legal systems that favors one group over another.
I agree that manga has unrealistic portrayals of disablism. The only manga I can think of where disablism is sort of addressed is Tamura Yumi's Chicago had a guy lose his leg, gets a prosthetic that allows him to keep doing crazy action-packed stuff, and then shows him working out to keep his leg muscles. The heroine comments that while prosthetics are top of the line and allows you to do a ton of stuff, people's limbs still end up atrophying eventually.
