I got home from work and was happily (re)compiling the Asian Women's Carnival* when I heard a strange rustling noise. After determining it was not, in fact, me, I peeked over to see yarn. On the floor. And a half-eaten piece of the rats' lab blocks...

Yes. Ed- and Al-rat somehow managed to escape from the cage and terrorized my yarn! Thankfully, none was chewed up, although a lot of it is now on the floor. Also, thankfully, unlike Ruki, they did not manage to spill all the precious laceweight from the top. Still!

Also, someone (AL I KNOW IT WAS YOU) chewed up Tiny Laptop's cord as well. ARGH!

EVIL. SO EVIL!

I should have known something was up when both of them finally figured out how to escape from the bathtub over the weekend...


* It was almost done, and then I foolishly did not save, my computer crashed, and... yeah.

Rats are totally evil masterminds! They would make great antagonists in Leverage. In fact, there ought to be a LOLrat Leverage.

Except mine are usually not! Well, except Ruki. Ruki was extremely dastardly. I had thought these guys would not be, but clearly playing with them in the bathtub while re-reading FMA and thinking about their namesakes has set something off.

OMG that totally explains it! Siiiigh. I anticipate that today, Ed will figure out how to get from the laundry basket to the bathroom floor, and then proceed to terrify the toilet.

OMG so need that! And unlike some of my other rats *cough*Fitz-rat*cough* these guys are not easily lured away from freedom with food.

Ed can jump out but doesn't often do so, whereas Al would try and jump out, scrabble at the top, and slide back down. But they have discovered that if I am in the tub, they can scramble up me and head out!

They didn't do it yesterday, but that's probably because I didn't have food up there...

I know! Although I am even more annoyed that Al-rat has a great love of computer cables...

Glad about the yarn! (Am behind on reading). Is the cable still usable if you wrap the chewed bit in electrical tape, or did he cut through wire?

On the upside, this is one of the first entries you've made about them where I have not thought, "ooh, rats must be fun."

I know! I worry so much. I try to keep the cables away, and so far they haven't chewed through, but I worry.

Could you try pre-emptively wrapping them in electrical tape? Or would that merely present more of a challenge?

Sadly, they chew through the tape too =(.

I think it should still be usable... they've chewed through a little of the wire in another one of my cables before, and it still works with tape.
