That crying meme

Let me stipulate that for me, crying invoked through fiction means tearing up. Maybe a little sniffling. Almost never are tissues involved or actual tears flowing down the face. I don't know why, but that's just how I do it (as opposed to my mom, who literally sobs at some things)

1. What scene in which movie is guaranteed to make you cry?

Right now, probably Sam's don't go where I can't follow Mr. Frodo scene. And the scene when Frodo sets sail.

2. What scene in which television show makes you tear up no matter how many times you've seen it?

Buffy, in Dead Things, begging Tara not to forgive her. And Buffy, in The Prom, crying in Willow's lap, saying, "I can't breathe, Will."
Anya's speech in The Body.
Giles finding Jenny's body in Passion. Passions? Huh.
Xander and Willow at the end of Grave.
Probably a lot more. I tear up a lot on Buffy.

3. Is there any famous tear jerker of a scene that leaves you cold? Or worse, makes you laugh?

Titanic. This is probably heresy, but "Close your eyes" in Becoming 2. It doesn't make me laugh, just.. I don't feel the punch. Anytime in Alias when they have cheesy music and Syd crying or being Extremely Earnest. This invokes giggling or yelling at the TV.

4. Do you cry when a character on screen cries, or is it something else that gets the tears flowing?

Um. I don't know... it depends on the character and how much I like them. Usually it's when one of them is taken beyond what they can stand and the breakdown (or numbness).

5. One fic that makes you cry?

Hard Candy. *sniffs*

And for my own fun:

What scene in a book is guaranteed to make you cry?

Ender's realization of what he's done in Ender's Game. Dianora in Tigana. Diarmuid and Kevin for the Fionavar Tapestry. Fainne's loss of Darragh in Child of the Prophecy. Almost anything with Fitz and the Fool from Golden Fool and Fool's Fate.

What scene in a book gives you that bittersweet feeling of pain and anguish but feels completely perfect in its pain? (Does anyone besides me get this feeling anyway?)

- The end of His Dark Materials
- Bran in The Dark is Rising
- The end of The Black Cauldron books
- The end of Sandman
- The end of Tigana
- The end of The Last Unicorn
- The end of Queen of the Darkness

I get this feeling a lot more than the crying.

Heh, it's "Passion", and me too! I cry a lot with Buffy, more than with Angel.

The first few times I saw that scene in "Becoming", I bawled my eyes out. Now, I might get a little misty but no real tears. I think watching S2 in sequence, the first time around with no spoilers, really packed a greater wallop. I was really invested in the B/A 'ship, so that probably made a difference :)

"Hero" gets me every time. Actually, S1 is the season that gets me weepy the most. The later seasons are so dense that there's no real catharsis, and the losses are too shocking and complex (Darla, Connor, even Cordelia) for the release that comes with more straightforward losses. Also, I think I often cry, not because a character has died, but because the other characters react. If they grieve, openly, then so do I. If they bottle it up and let it fester, I don't reach that same cathartic moment.

And whoa, that is waaay more analysis than I ever though I'd do on crying! My attempt at the meme is here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/scrollgirl/105109.html), if you wanna see :)
