I realize it's a little last-minute to do this, especially after events like [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry, but I figure better late than never?

Donate to defeating Prop 8 in California (that's the one trying to ban gay marriage).

I do not think that gay marriage should be the be-all-end-all of glbt activism, but I also think a proposition overturning the ruling on gay marriage in the California constitution would set an absolutely horrible precedence in terms of social justice and human rights in general. Please help! And may I not be ashamed of my state on Tuesday...

ETA: This foray into national politics brought to you by the news that the No on Prop 8 site was temporarily brought down by a DoS attack. This is completely illogical of me, but that somehow spurred me in a way that the billion TV ads for Prop 8 have not.

Spam the TV all you want, but leave the websites alone, people!

Thanks for saying this - of course I oppose (or support) specific laws, and I still feel like queer/progressive straight people get pressured into feeling like OMG GAY MARRIAGE without celebrating a broader range of social issues (health care, importance of other relationships, other elements of gay culture, etc).
