Then I did a re-read more closely (because I am a dork).

Awesome! I keep meaning to reread Blue Sword and Hero and Crown after these discussions, except I keep forgetting to. Also, I am afraid of ruining the memory of the books, sigh.

And more siiigh, your description places TBS directly into the "What these people need is a honky" category. It's got the disenchantment with white society! The specialness! The romantic attachment! The saving!

Also, you totally hit the nail on the head with the "exotic enough to be tantalizing but not enough to be off-putting" half-white people (and it always seems to be half-white! Never Asian-black or Latino-Native-American!).
