Hey! I'm starting to have hope now that the ending won't drive me insane!
Don't get me wrong, I love the series like mad, but 1999nen wasn't the most reassuring thing with regard to the female characters.
So, the incest rapidly becomes text, and no one is surprised. Still no confirmation about Sou as the black knight, though more and more it seems like that's a mislead, and Kureha and Ichijo sleep together!
And! Ichijo seems to finally be questioning his association of strength with masculinity and his further association of masculine strength with feminine weakness. I love Kureha to pieces for telling him no and for being the one to break it off, insisting that she's not a princess to be rescued, and he's no prince. The dream sequences continue to be eery and perfectly dreamlike, and Ichijo losing his hand while holding on to Kureha was great.
And oh, Sou. You are such an asshole sometimes, but I still like you. And there's some more hints about Sou's family and Ai and Sou's mom.
Ichijo and Momoka make it out of the school; I can't remember if this is the first time we've seen something outside of the school grounds or not. And some of the rules of the game become a little clearer, both with Momoka disappearing, not graduating, after not making it to three classes, and with Ichijo keeping the uniform after it's been given to him/her.
Also! Ichijo in a girls' uniform! Wow! I am dying to read volume 7 now.
I also loved Kureha and Sou eating bento together, particularly how the whole making bento thing is subverted just a bit by Kureha saying everything is microwaved. I am starting to have a little more faith in Mizushiro's gender politics, although I'm not wholly convinced yet. And just... we get Kureha being assertive and overcoming her fear of men-who-aren't-Ichijo, and we have a little story of female friendships that manages to avoid catty backstabbing. Yay!

Thu, May. 1st, 2008 07:32 pm (UTC)I'd definitely hang-out with her and eat microwaved bento.
I liked the mermaid girl just because anyone who calls Ichijo on his 'hollow prince' act (originally Shinbashi, but now just about everyone), has earned my affection.
My current bet for Sou's dream form: his sister.

I love Kureha so much in this volume, and I SO LOVE that Ichijo gets called on his chivalric thing!
