rachelmanija has finished her excellent series of posts on PTSD: Parts I, II, and III- She's also started reading Angel Sanctuary! My joy cannot be contained! Also, spoil her and have your brain taken over by Rosiel.
rilina and
yhlee continue to watch Gundam Wing. My joy is still not contained! OMG people watching and getting into my beloved first anime series despite its mecha-ness!- I'm sure everyone has already seen the post-apocalyptic cities posters for I Am Legend but I wanted to highlight the fact that they have TAIPEI and SEOUL! EEEEEEE! (I love Hong Kong, but I feel HK is featured much more often than Taipei and Seoul! OMG! Taipei! National monument that is only a few blocks away from my apartment!
- I have taken the plunge, put my Netflix account on hold, and started Blockbuster. I blame my sister. On the minus side, Blockbuster only has DVDs 7-10 of GWing. On the plus side.... THEY HAVE DAMO ON DVD!!!!!
shewhohashope hosts the 5th POC in SF Carnival and focuses on non-Western fantasy, including... WUXIA! (yes, I am a little obsessed right now) I particularly rec
meganbmoore's wuxia primer for those of you like me who only know you like swords and flying people and historical costumes and have no idea what to watch outside of two or three things. And it's good for people who have absolutely no idea what wuxia is too! Win-win!
I should actually catch up on book and TV posting but... oh well. Soon.

Mon, Dec. 3rd, 2007 10:10 pm (UTC)I am deeply amused that your glee is the result of pictures of these cities in a state of post-apocalyptic decay! Yet I know exactly where this odd fannish joy comes from -- when I went to see 'The Day After Tomorrow', I was absolutely delighted that Northern Ireland gets mentioned in it, in the background soundtrack in one scene. Sure, it was mentioned in the context of getting utterly obliterated by freak weather, but it was still mentioned.

Mon, Dec. 3rd, 2007 10:51 pm (UTC)But, yeah, that does sound like the kind of heroine I like. After finishing Seirei no Moribito, I realized how truly rare that type of heroine is. Genuinely, I mean. We do gets lots of "ass-kicking" heroines in a anime and manga but when you peer more closely, you realize that hmm, actually, no, that's not the case.

Mon, Dec. 3rd, 2007 10:55 pm (UTC)But um, yes. And she is not the usual "spirited" ass-kicking heroine. I do not mind them if they actually do have spines, as opposed to only saying they have spines, but I also like the quiet stoic ones too.
My latest favorite Chae-Ohk thing: she is tied up and hanging from a tree branch, and the male villain threatens her sexually by tearing open her top (stay with me!), and then! Before the romantic interest/hero/commanding police officer gets there! She flips up in the air and kicks the guy all while tied to the branch and then does something so when all the troops get there, she has already vanquished him! I think I cheered out loud.

Mon, Dec. 3rd, 2007 10:59 pm (UTC)So this is a film about Will Smith saving the world (or failing to do so, based on the posters)? I'm already there.

Mon, Dec. 3rd, 2007 11:25 pm (UTC)I can't really see the point of fighting to stay alive when you're the last person on Earth. Humanity is pretty much over already. In that situation, I'd be quite apathetic about everything, to be honest, let alone looking after a pet.

Tue, Dec. 4th, 2007 12:06 am (UTC)And Basara has a strong, smart fighter heroine, a shrewd and ruthless hero only half a step away from a villain, justified angst, swords, and a pirate queen. AND it's a post-apocalyptic romance.
I remain appalled you don't read.

Tue, Dec. 4th, 2007 12:06 am (UTC)Coffee Prince! At least get to episode 12, I stalled a little after that because it was already almost perfect at that point.
You're probably ahead of me in Damo, as it's the end of term at uni and I have assignments due.
Also: Hana Yori Dango!! I may upload episodes, just so people watch it.
I think I'm freaking out people with all this drama talk, so I'm considering getting a separate lj account just for drama talk.
This was a really disjointed comment, feel free to reply to any and all, or none of the points made.

Tue, Dec. 4th, 2007 12:13 am (UTC)Noooo! Noooo! As a selfish, completely self-interested person reading your LJ, I protest! I like having everything in one place. It means I go to someone and start reading for race commentary and manga talk and end up getting sucked into dramas. This is, of course, a completely hypothetical example ;).
But honestly, if it makes things easier for you, go for it!
I also egg you on in your pimpage ^___^. OMG OMG OMG I cannot wait until I get Damo DVDs in the mail! No finding the correctly timed subtitle file! No joining files! Though I will of course continue to acquire just so I can pimp it to more people. I think I have already tried to pimp it to five separate individuals, not counting the general squee I do on my LJ.
(I am a little obsessed with Damo right now, as you can tell.)
