Breaking with my usual rule of not reading Yuki Kaori in public, I read this in a cafe with
coffeeandink sitting nearby so we could immediately squee. I think the various snorfles and snorts and other strange noises I made while attempting to suppress hysterical giggles, hand flailing and "OMG! OMG!" scared off everyone in the vicinity (which is why I usually don't read Yuki Kaori in public).
Riff! OMG! The doubles! The secret agendas! THE SECRET OTHER PERSONALITY! The fact that nice, gentle, Cain-following Riff was a completely made-up personality implemented by Cain's father solely to torture Cain like this ten years down the line! The fact that the made-up Riff personality felt so bad about things that he tried to commit suicide, probably programmed in just so Cain would feel bad for him and be even more shattered!
Like Mely said, the most amazing thing is that Yuki Kaori totally foreshadowed this, but it was just so completely insane that no one could have guessed it.
Also, the shoelace tying! I am simultaneously amused and touched by the symbolism of Cain tying his shoelaces by himself. And his one perfect tear. And his ripping out the earring Riff uses to track him.
Also also... Riff tracked him via a vibrating piece of rock WTF? Hee!
Also also also, I still don't feel bad for Jezebel.
I am sure there is a ton more cracktastic stuff in this volume, except I can't remember it because of Riff's betrayal! And Cain's decision to kill Riff because Cain loves Riff so much that he can't bear to see this Riff.
Oh manga logic, how I adore you.
I am sure my not remember the other cracktastic stuff will lead to a moment down the line in which I say, "Oh! I completely forgot about the cannibal zombie angel embryos!" which really just sums up the entire Yuki Kaori experience.
Viz, why haven't you licensed everything else Yuki Kaori has written? I would so throw money at you for it.

Wed, Jul. 11th, 2007 09:27 pm (UTC)I have no idea if you read Bleach or not, but I thought of you when they introduced the small undead crybaby toddler that can heal people by throwing up on them.

Wed, Jul. 11th, 2007 09:38 pm (UTC)I feel very privileged now, since where I live they published all KY's works. But you can download another manga of hers, Bloodhound, here (http://savefile.com/projects/808489147). It's practically a goth Ouran; it features a vampire!host club (the leader is called Suou, o irony) and much insanity, the KY trademark way. ^^

Wed, Jul. 11th, 2007 09:41 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm jealous! They publish all of her stuff back in Taiwan too, but that means I have to read it in Chinese. And since my Chinese is very bad, it means I got through the first three volumes of Angel Sanctuary not realizing that "organic angel" was in fact "organic angel" and not "mechanical angel."
Um, not that "organic angel" makes much sense in English.
Vampire host club?! OMG! I must read that!!

Wed, Jul. 11th, 2007 10:08 pm (UTC)In Italy they published Angel Sanctuary as an experiment, but they had such a success that then they published everything she did. Who knew that a gothic mess could sell so much!
Go read it! ^^

Wed, Jul. 11th, 2007 10:49 pm (UTC)Mely noted that Angel Sanctuary was one of those series that she thought would never get licensed, and yet!

Sat, Jul. 28th, 2007 05:31 pm (UTC)Yuki Kaori is awesome! Sadly, I haven't read Kaine or Boys Next Door yet... my Japanese is only so-so and usually given her labyrinthe plots, I get a little lost if I don't read her in English.
