Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] double_helix:

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?

Graduated from college. Wrote a thesis. Starting living by myself, as an adult (kind of). Got a real tree. Cooked for myself.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Um. I don't make them... never really did get it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes. Still dealing.

5. What countries did you visit?

Taiwan. Yup. Not many this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?

More money! Or a cheaper but just as nice apartment. Or both. Or a promotion as seen in wages.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

April 16. It's not really an important date, but I dreamed twice that it was already April 16 and I hadn't started my thesis yet (which was due on the 28th)! Also, April 28th, thesis day, and June 3, graduation.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I wrote a thesis. It was large. It didn't suck too much. And because of this, I actually graduated. I also learned how to drive in real life, as opposed to the little circles around the block I did before for the test. I also got a job.

9. What was your biggest failure?

My lifestyle is too much for my job, and I haven't managed to cut it down. Also, I am not self-sufficient.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Ummm... amazingly, not this year. Although I was rather miserably sick with a cold during graduation =(.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My furniture? My car? Ok, my mom bought those. My signed Neil Gaiman Death comics ^_^. And my bookshelves. And my minis.

Oh wait! No... the best thing I did was buy that dinky two month paid LJ so I could get my own LJ, since I didn't know anyone at the time. I *heart* my LJ.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Er. Books and food. No really, who would've thunk? ;)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Being employed! (and RotK)

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?

Um. Probably one of those Avril songs that are always on the radio. My personal music doesn't age that much for me, but radio music does.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

Happier or sadder? Right now, sadder because I would have been at home last year. Overall, happier.
Older or wiser? Hopefully both.
Thinner or fatter? Fatter, sigh.
Richer or poorer? Poorer, more sigh.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Hung around with people who were not the boy in college.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Being in a depressed funk. Course, wasn't like I had that much choice in the matter.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

With the boy's family, probably half scared because I don't know how they celebrate and half excited in an anthropological way ("So this is how the natives do it! We do it all wrong in Taiwan!")

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?

Stayed in love, which I think is better?

23. How many one-night stands?

Nope, see above.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Angel. Buffy... was kind of meh, even though I still love it.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Nope, thankfully. Hating takes up a lot of energy.

26. What was the best book you read?

Probably Freedom and Necessity, by Steven Brust and Emma Bull -- out of nowhere, and stunningly delightful fun. And chewy to boot.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes! I pimp them and drive the boy crazy because I play them all the time.

28. What did you want and get?

A non-corporate job.

29. What did you want and not get?

A hybrid car. Oh well, I love my car very much too. And, a high-paying job. Cake, eating it, yes.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

RotK. But I did see Chicago about 5 times in the theater. And Lost in Translation is great too. But RotK wrung me dry.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

22. I sat in my not quite furnished apartment and baked myself two cakes. Then I went to a dinner in which no one knew it was my birthday, and I was too embarrassed to tell them.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Feeling like I had been more in touch with my friends in college.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?

Um... same as the other years? Oh wait, no... skirts. Thanks to weight gain, pants mostly stopped fitting so I bought skirts... felt less bad buying skirts because I didn't have skirts, whereas I did have lots of pants.

34. What kept you sane?

The boy. LJ. Sometimes not by all that much too.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Johnny Depp and Ewan McGregor.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

War in Iraq.

37. Who did you miss? (in no particular order)

My parents, my sister, college, a support network of friends in the area.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

All the people on LiveJournal!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:

Life is short.

Also, there is always a way out if you just skew your worldview a little, even when you think your only options are being stuck in a cubicle doing a job you hate for the rest of your life (hmmm don't know if this will help anyone but me).

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"Someday I'll be Saturday night, I'll be back on my feet, doing all right." Cheesy ;).

Hey!

Hmm, I did this meme myself (http://www.livejournal.com/users/scrollgirl/65803.html#cutid1), then noticed #12 and 13 are missing. I couldn't find the original meme on [livejournal.com profile] double_helix's LJ, but maybe you know where it is? Not that it's such a big deal, I'm just wondering what the questions might've been.
