The plot thickens!

I was complaining a little to myself on how boring Juliet gets when she reverts to female dress, which makes me sad. But then, tragedy occurs! And it is clear that it was all setup for Juliet to become an avenger of the people, as spurred by a tragic death. Also, this way, it is even more tragic because she is actually giving something up (Romeo, life as a normal person) in order to take on her new role as the head of the Capulets. In conclusion, there is much tragedy.

Also, while Juliet angsts and angsts, Romeo is largely sunny and cute, except when confronted by his dad's suckiness. He is so the dainty, unworldly princess who gets a crash-course in civic ethics when he discovers true love. Except, you know, he is the dainty, unworldly prince.

I was also completely amused by the "Romeo accidentally sees Juliet in her underwear!" plot, particularly as it accompanied stripping because they were soaking wet.

But mostly I was actually a little bored by the romance angst until the doctor guy dressed up as the Red Whirlwind and got himself killed. And Juliet is now traumatized and also now dedicated to the cause, and I am very happy.

Do you really think he is dead? Because I think it was a little strange the way they showed his death. They didn't have any qualms about showing the Capulets being murdered so I am wary that we didn't even see burnt cloth or broken glasses of the doctors. Also the fact that as far as we know the friar is still alive bugs me.

Oh the doctor had to die. The Capulets and their posse totally didn't seem like they understood what it would take to lead a rebellion, to change the course of their city. The Montagues made a mistake by executing the Red Whirlwind after they had let all those people go. If they had kept up with their present horrible course...or at least killed all of those innocent people (thus making the Red Whirlwind a murderer by proxy), they might have been able to keep the populace in place. The whole experiment with the frog: put a frog in boiling water, it jumps out. Raise the temperature slowly, the frog never knows it's screwed. The doctor seemed to have understood that better than anyone. The figure of the Red Whirlwind is so much more effective as a martyr (plus now anyone can pretend to be the Red Whirlwind...kinda like V's whole plan in V is for Vendetta, movie not graphic novel as I hate Frank Miller). Everyone in the square has now become an agent of rebellion, even if in a small way. I was very pleased with the whole political aspect of episode six, it added depth to an otherwise pretty but aimless show. I love rebellion and statements against tyranny.

I laughed out loud when Romeo 'accidentally' saw Juliet in her underwear, and then 'accidentally' fell on top of her.

Ouran got so much funnier when I realised that it was mocking actual shoujo tropes that are used in actual shoujo anime.

I'm glad that Juliet is really invested in the reclaiming her title, because the whole coup thing was starting to feel like a sub-plot, and I always held that the political situation was the main plot of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (that, and that Mercutio was gay for Romeo).

I like that Juliet is the one who has to deal with politics/has the most action, while Romeo's problems are essentially that he loves one girl, but his father is forcing him to marry another, and he seems incredibly naive with respect to the social/economic realities of life outside the keep.
