Full titles: Knitting Rules!: The Yarn Harlot's Bag of Knitting Tricks
Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting

See, if I procrastinate long enough on blogging books, I can combine things into one entry!

Even though all three books cover roughly the same ground, I liked these two better than Pearl-McPhee's Yarn Harlot, largely because the less narrative, more listy approach worked well. These two have things like "Five Best TV Shows for Knitting" or "How to Start a Knitting Flamewar," as opposed to the mini essays on things that the first book had. Knitting Rules! is slightly more technical; Pearl-McPhee includes some very basic patterns for a sock, a hat, and etc. Casts Off is written in the guise of a tour book to Knitting. If you aren't a knitter, you probably don't care about reading either, if you are, you may not care that the territory covered in both books is roughly the same.

Though if you're a non-knitter who's a little interested or just wants a look at what's going on, I'd rec Casts Off out of the three. The guide book format is sometimes twee, but it's fun; it's less technical than Knitting Rules!; and the essay format of Yarn Harlot didn't work that well for me. Also, funny lists are easier to read.
