ETA: just for the record, it is currently an ocelot.

And for some semblance of actual content... uh. There really is no actual content. Most of what I've been doing for the past two or three days is mainlining Honey and Clover for the nth time, due to [livejournal.com profile] vonnie_k watching and squeeing.

I love the the His Dark Materials Trilogy. Am a little nervous about the upcoming movie. Will probably see it, will probably cry with disappointment.

Yes, it does seem to sort of unravel. I didn't notice it on my first read through, but now that I am re-reading it, there seems to be some inconsistencies with Lyra's character....like how the spunky minx seems to be asleep most of the last novel....

pullman made into a movie? at this rate, the only people left will be gaiman and pratchett. gaiman because no one will be able to make the sandman into a movie (stardust has been), and pratchett because he won't let his books be turned into movies.

Ooooh, it's a lynx now. Pretty!

I was in a brief flurry of toning panic due to printer weirdness, but am now back to plotting that manga-drawing example thingie we talked about. Heh. Do you ship Hisoka/Tsuzuki by any chance? Am looking for something super short but worksafe to use as an example....

Also: I can't wait to mainline Honey and Clover this weekend.

Excellent! I've been searching for some super short drabbles and I adore those two and there are some gorgeous bits written about them. I really wanted to pick characters you liked. That is an awesome story about the subway.

Yes! H&C is going to be my post-gardening vacation this weekend. I'm going to plant and weed and dig and wash the car and then curl up with ice cream, the Pookie at my feet, and H&C. Bwahahaha. I can't wait.

At my old job, a bunch of my coworkers decided we all needed totem animals. One was squirrel, another was a meerkat, and I was a ferret. Which meant they would randomly send me photos of bright-eyed ferrets whenever they found a cute one on the internet. It was all very random. And I don't think I'm very ferret-like.

Looks like you are a spider now. What were your problems with the ending out of curiosity? I loved the first book, but didn't like how the story switched gears and focused on Will for the second. It seemed like Lyra's personality did a complete turnaround.

Heh. That is what I thought too. I really did enjoy the first book though. I just remember being very unhappy with the ending. I don't know how I feel about a movie.

The first two books promised great things to come. The third book failed to deliver. I like to say, "When killing off [Spoiler] is boring, you know something is wrong."

On the rec.arts.sf.written newsgroup, someone said it was as if Pullman painted himself into a corner, and then flung brushes and paint every which way as he stomped off.

Ah yes, I very much agree. I remember getting to that point and going...what? The ending is very anti-climactic.

I'm not sure what to think about the movie, myself. On the one hand, anything that feeds Pullman's ever-growing ego is to be avoided... On the other, the first two books were glorious, and it looks like production values will be way up there.

On the other other hand, Tom Stoppard was supposed to be the one adapting the book for film -- and left because of creative differences. Which is never a good sign.
