[livejournal.com profile] rilina asked me how many manga series I am currently reading*.

"Errrr," I said.

I feel somewhat better about my list after seeing hers, but not quite. Reassure me by posting your own lists! We can't be the only people out there reading over twenty series at the same time!

Right?

* "currently reading" is defined rather loosely, as you will probably see in the parenthetical remarks. Said parenthetical remarks will probably also illustrate the phrase "hope springs eternal" (I'll finish, no really!).

Things I am currently reading*:
  1. Bleach
  2. Cain Saga/Godchild (I am counting these as one to cut down on my list)
  3. Cantarella
  4. Death Note (on and off)
  5. Emma
  6. Eternal Sabbath
  7. Fruits Basket
  8. Fullmetal Alchemist
  9. Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden
  10. Goong
  11. Her Majesty's Dog
  12. Hikaru no Go (I will finish! Really!)
  13. Kare Kano
  14. Koukou Debut
  15. Land of the Blindfolded (2 more volumes to go!)
  16. Monster
  17. Mushishi
  18. Nana (which I count despite the 3 year long hiatus on my part)
  19. Naruto
  20. Omae ga Sekai o Kowashitai Nara
  21. Oyayubihime Infinity
  22. Paradise Kiss (sort of)
  23. Rose of Versailles
  24. Saiyuki (Reload and Gaiden)
  25. Tramps Like Us
  26. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
  27. Vampire Knight
  28. Wild Adaptor
  29. xxxHolic

Things that I sort of gave up on but may resume at any time:
  1. Absolute Boyfriend
  2. Kaze Hikaru
  3. Qwan
  4. W Juliet

Things that I intend to pick up again but possibly in the distant future:
  1. Good Morning Call (first shoujo manga I ever read! Awwww)
  2. Gunslinger Girl
  3. Hana Kimi

Things that I really mean to read but maybe after I catch up on some other series first:
  1. Global Garden
  2. Please Save My Earth
  3. Ribon no Kishi
  4. Samurai Deeper Kyo
  5. Silver Diamond
  6. To Terra
  7. Wallflower
  8. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Things I really mean to reread but maybe after I catch up on some other series first and tacke the "Things I really mean to read" list as well:
  1. Gokinjo Monogatari
  2. Kagen no Tsuki
  3. Mars
  4. Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai

Dang it, I forgot Host Club! Also out of curiosity why did you put down Hana-kimi?

Ah okay. Hana-kimi is one of my favorites so I was going to be sad if there was some horrible plot point or something.

I do tend to skip over the fights. Unless Rukia is involved.

Yes, my list is embarrassing! When I got home I realized I'd left some off. Alice 19th, and um, now I forget. LOL.

I'm still in the very first volumes--it takes me forever to read it because the art makes no sense, and I have a hard time keeping track of everyone (it got easier once I realized that they have multiple identities/genders/etc), but I love the crackiness and it is hitting all my story buttons like WHOA and so I hoard it to read in long guilty swathes.

Oh, dear. The Tyrant Falls In Love. Okay, so you know how I have this bizarre love for high school/college BL. Well, Challengers is this not very good (IMO) light BL comedy about two guys. One of them is an absentminded, good-hearted guy (the pursued). The guy happens to have a rabidly overprotective older brother. That's the 'tyrant'. He's a scientist post-doc student or something, and his assistant is madly in love with him, but the tyrant is homophobic (for, as it turns out, rather understandable reasons). It sounds cliche but it is really well done. This mangaka's other series, Little Butterfly, was a lot more moving than it had any right to be. Full of cliches, and dumb plot points, but I didn't care--I actually got sniffly, which never happens to me. Strangely, though, the art in Little Butterfly creeped me out. I want the Tyrant Falls In Love very badly. It was supposed to be published already. Argh. Must Have Story Now.

But think of all the inspiration that you (and the others) are giving to those of us who are just starting on the long, strange trip that is manga reading!

Of course I'm glad to see SDK on your "to read" list. My daughter has just started Please Save My Earth and is enjoying it, even though evil Mom is making it educational by buying it for her in Spanish ... .

Oh, I highly, highly recommend Global Garden and PSME (as well as her other series, Mirai no Utena, which also deals with weird reincarnation stuff).
