1. Do you like slash fanfiction?

Generally I don't gravitate toward slash pairings, so I don't read much, but there's no inherent like or dislike per se. I also think I tend to favor femslash pairings/fic more.

2. If you like slash, recommend one that you liked with author. (If you don't skip the question. For a definition of what slash is go to thebratqueen who did an essay on it. Rather good.)
Skipping

3. Do you read fanfiction?

Yup, though I've slowed down a little.

4. If so recommend one.

Rheanna's Vivere, Angel future around S2, which I think may be my favorite piece ever. Then Annie Sewell-Jennings and wisteria's Hard Candy.

5. Are you a post-structuralist/existentialist or a structuralist/deist? Do you follow Sarrusa or Derrida? (for definition see superplin's essay on Destiny).

Err. I was lazy and didn't read it =(.

6. How do you view God? (note this is not do you believe in God, it's how you view or consider the concept of God...big difference)

I think it's a pretty concept that is an expression of a deeply imbedded human need to feel that there's something greater than ourselves out there.

7. Which philosophers off the top of your head are you interested in and want to learn more about?

Generally, I tend not to favor philosophers.

8. Which philosophers do you prefer?

See above.

9. What's your favorite myth or myths?

Oooo. I like creation myths. I also like the venturing into the underworld myths, ala Orpheus and Persephone.

10. What's your favorite fairy tale?

Beauty and the Beast or the Goose Girl. Or maybe the Snow Queen. Mostly I tend to gravitate toward Beauty and the Beast because of the non-beauty of the beast.

11. If you could re-write a myth or fairy tale, which one would it be and how would you re-tell it?

Erm, in fanfic I've done one for Gundam Wing, a retelling of the Snow Queen with tons of rose imagery, and I had one on Donkeyskin except I've never finished it. If I wrote more, I would love to kind of interweave fairy tale elements into a more present-day story like Emma Donoghue or Jane Yolen's Briar Rose. Alas, I read too many fairy tale rewrites and am intimidated by the wealth of talent there ;).

12. Do you know any authors who re-tell myths or fairy tales? IF so, whose your favorite? What myth or fairy tale did they re-tell?

Very yes. My favorites are probably Robin McKinley (2 books on Beauty and the Beast, one on Donkeyskin, short stories on the Frog Prince and the Twelve Dancing Princesses, plus some she's just made up). I'm also particularly fond of the Windling/Datlow edited series starting with Snow White, Blood Red (I think), which has many excellent retellings and original tales. I also like Marillier's take on the Seven Swans and Celtic mythology. I like Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles and how they make fun of fairy tale conventions. I could probably go on and on and on about this!

13. If you could write a story from the perspective of one character in fiction - can be television, movies, books, or comics - which character would you pick and why? (Off the top of your head)

Right now, Lauren Reed from Alias because I'm rather intrigued by her and I'm guessing from the general support in the fandom of Sydney/Vaughn that she's not a very popular character.

14. Okay, what do you really think of online personality tests? Like the Similar Minds one?

I like doing them, and surprisingly, I don't really mind if they're presented uncut on my friends list, as long as it's one at a time.

15. If you could remake a TV show or Movie, redo it, re-cast it, rewrite it - which one would it be?

Ooooo. Off the top of my head, probably La Femme Nikita because it has such potential! I'd darken up Section One even more. I'd get a better actor for Michael. I'd write Michael colder and scarier and probably drag on the UST waaaaay too long. I'd give it long arcs ala Buffy or Alias and more money so it could have production values like Alias. I'd stuff it full of moral dilemmas and the thin edge between practicality and cold-heartedness. Actually, I'd like a sort of blend between the darkness of LFN and the production values and arciness and heavy plotiness of Alias.

16. If you could write a biography on any historical figure, alive or dead, and interview them for it, which one would you pick? Why?

I think I would probably chicken out! I don't like talking to people I admire because I always sound stupid!

17. Who is your favorite historical figure? Why?

Probably Martin Luther King Jr. because I really admire what he was doing and how he did it.

18. What's your favorite historical period? Do you know any books on this period you'd recommend?

Ooooo... I like the thought of the 1920s in America, 1930s in Germany (for sheer angst in fiction). I'm also very fond of turn of the century 1900s when everything's changing. Also Meiji Japan, Tokugawa Japan, Tang Dynasty China, Elizabethan England, Renaissance Italy. Er. This is difficult. I haven't read much on anything except the Japanese ones and then in very specialized areas. Gregory Pflugfelder's Cartographies of Desire is a good intro to male-male relationships in Tokugawa and Meiji Japan. John Dower's War Without Mercy and Embracing Defeat are good books on WWII Japan and post-war Japan, respectively. Sadly, I haven't read much on anything else -- mostly fiction set in those times.

I also think I tend to favor femslash pairings/fic more.

I've been reading a lot of femslash lately, and I'm really loving it. Granted, I don't usually tend to divide fic into het/gen/slash genres - if it's about two (or more) characters I love, I'll read it. But reading stories with women in the lead roles appeals to be on a more instinctive level than all-male slash does. I guess it's an identification thing...

I'm guessing from the general support in the fandom of Sydney/Vaughn that she's not a very popular character.

I'm not sure if she's disliked, exactly. She seems to get lost in the rush to pet Sark though ;-)

Oh, the femslah I've been reading is Buffyverse, mainly Buffy/Faith, although I love Willow/Fred for light reading. Alias doesn't really have enough strong women to slash...but then, I'm not really into Alias fic at all. I find I'm drawn into the Alias story, but the characters don't catch me the way the Whedonverse ones do.
