Ep. 14-18

Ok, this is getting very, very interesting!

First off, Von Rothbart! Ok, maybe not exactly, but enough so! Also, while the MotW structure is now very similar, it's nice that Mytho is evil. He was rather boring as the shounen in distress. It's nice getting a glimpse into Kraehe as well, particularly the part in which her father continues to tell her that only the prince and he will ever love her, because she is just that ugly and bad. Poor Kraehe.

I continue to adore Fakir, and he and Ahiru have even more in common now -- they both should have died or disappeared at the end of the first arc, but they're still here, so they're still trying to find their place in the new story. Mytho and Kraehe have a more certain place, even though Mytho's role has changed.

I will also never stop being amused by Fakir turning red and running away whenever Ahiru turns back into a girl.

And oh, the scene when Fakir finds poor wounded Ahiru! Wah! So cute! I am amazed that the show is actually heading in the direction of Ahiru/Fakir, given the fairy tale structure, but I really shouldn't be all that surprised, given the wanton destruction of said fairy tale structure.

I squealed out loud when Neko-sensei mentioned Odile.

The Fakir-Mytho relationship is also getting more interesting, and now I wish that I had requested this for Yuletide. Doh! Perhaps there will be fic anyway.

And it was interesting to see how bits and pieces of these episodes were echoing the first few episodes, from Mytho falling out the window to the appearance of Uzura (who is really, incredibly cute).

I nearly fell over laughing every time Femio appeared with Carmen playing in the background. The Rose Petals of DOOM! The bull! The sheer insanity!

And finally, the excellent Fakir episode! I wasn't paying that much attention this time around, so I didn't pick up on too many fairy tale/ballet references, though I was happy to see Coppelia and possibly the story of Narcissus (is it a ballet? For some reason, I remember someone telling me it was).

Also, every time Mytho or Rue pose as a crow, I keep thinking of Ukoku from Saikyuki.

I also wonder what that new play is. Is it an alternate version to Drosselmeyer's story? Why does he freak out when someone takes it?

Yay, you're getting into the really good stuff! The first half is wonderful, but it was the second half that made me want to run around shoving the series into people's hands and going, "Watch this NOW!"

There's an essay somewhere on [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto about Fakir and Ahiru. It includes some fic recs and lots of spoilers for the end of the series. It might be worth seeking out after you've seen the end of the series (don't do it before unless you crave spoilers).

Princess Tutu was one of my Yuletide fandoms, so it's possible there will be a story from that. Or someone else who requested it may have matched, who knows?

I just finished Princess Tutu yesterday. It continues becoming more awesome until the end! (I need icons.)
