I cannot for the life of me figure out the chapter numbers that correspond to the volumes, and so I don't really remember where I left off.

Also, like usual, I read batches in between various other obsessions, and as such, I don't really remember things all that clearly.

Sai still sort of bores me, although his little picture book was cute.

And Sasuke returns! Sasuke returns and is dressed in the Worst Outfit Ever, is even more emo than ever, and stares down his nose at poor Naruto and Sakura, his white gi of dorkiness flapping in the wind. Why the open gi, Sasuke? WHY?!

I am fairly certain that there was some sort of revelation wrt to Akatsuki and Orochimaru, but the plot section of my brain seems to have been shut down for most of the year already, so I honestly have no idea.

This is the good part about reading Bleach -- the plot makes no sense anyway, so it doesn't really matter if I follow it or not, as long as Kubo's grumpy characters amuse me. Alas for Naruto, this is not the case, and I keep feeling like I'm missing important things.

I vaguely remember being irritated at Sakura bursting into tears. This was probably during the re-emergence of Sasuke. I will instead fanwank and pretend that she is crying out in horror of his dreadful outfit. Not against the crying per se, but I can't wait for her to punch him out.

Some other stuff happens, and Kakashi actually trains Naruto! Amazing! I can't actually remember what he's training Naruto in, but I'm sure I'll find out at some key sequence.

Insert more plot, and the next thing I remember is crazy mercenary guy and crazy sado-masochist guy who clearly needs to be in a padded room. I mean, I know there are many manga and anime villains who have Evil Schemes, but this guy really tops them. He kills himself to kill the other characters and relishes his pain and then revives himself! OMGWTFBBQ?! I think he and [spoilery character] should get together as said spoilery character could then use insane character for the head-in-a-jar. Sorry, that makes no sense whatsoever, but it amused me.

And Asuma dies! Woe! I would probably be sadder, except along with keeping track of plot, I also seem to have lost the ability to keep track of minor characters. But I was very sad for Shikamaru, Ino and Chouji, and I loved their recollections.

Yeah, I don't feel like we really got enough of Asuma for his death to really matter. I hope Kishimoto pulls some of his deep ass flashbacks for me to really feel bad about it, otherwise, it's like, "Oh well."

And yeah, let's have less of the helplessness to the women characters overall.

I think Kishimoto's pacing sense has been shot this whole story arc, and I'm hoping he gets back into the grove sometime soon. :/

Well, I don't think ANY of the new characters have much personality- the villains, Sai, or Yamato. We haven't seen any conflicts of philosophy ("People can never change/Yes they can") or emotional breakthroughs (Sai- it's not good when Rei Ayanami has more personality than you...), which is what keeps Naruto from devolving into simply "Fight of the week" manga.

OMG. Yeah, if Guy passed, I would have totally hooked in.
