More Italy pictures! (Naples and Pompeii)

And now, the last of the Italy pictures, unless I decide to upload some that my dad took. Anyway, no write-up for these, since by this time, I was extremely sick, it was extremely hot, and I was extremely grumpy.

The lovely Castle d'Ouvo (Castle of the Egg). But since it was the eve before Notte Bianco, they had this really weird light show going on, and music that sounded more like shrieks and squeals and the soundtrack to a very bad scifi movie. Not quite the dinner entertainment I had been expecting...

Cheese plate! They were really nice and even gave me a giant ball of mozzarella when I asked too!

A very out of focus mushroom sautee. Mmmmmm, mushrooms.

My mom's salad, wrapped in anchovies. I don't hate anchovies, so I ate them for her, and these were actually really good! Preserved, but not overwhelmingly salty.

Octopus salad. Very, very, very good. I had so much octopus in Italy.

More octopi!

Mmmmm, ravioli....

Witness, Naples traffic from the shotgun seat of a cab.

You know it's only up here because people tried it.

Pompeii was incredibly hot, and I was incredibly sick, so I didn't enjoy it that much. But I loved the green, green grass next to the old ruins; the living next to the dead.

The remains of a temple

Most of Pompeii looked more like this, everything paved over

Dog in field

A relief on an altar

A small peek into a house that still has its decorations

The frescoes on the ceiling of a public bath

The very large amphitheatre

Me and my sister, making our way down with our umbrellas

Fruit! Tasty granita stand!

A giant palace built around the 18th century

This chandelier is HUGE! I think three of me could sit on it!

I am still amused by my dad's friend's shorts

Labyrinth floor. I sort of wanted to try and figure it out, but they had roped it off (probably because of people like me).

The throne room.

The ceiling of the throne room

My dad, next to the door for size comparison

The throne! It actually looks rather small, considering the room

A very grand table

Ok, I was just amused by the cherub's un-cherubian expression

Glass chandelier!

My sister and I spent a while debating if the paintings were actually carvings or not.

Brocade wallpaper. I would never pick this stuff, but it's so fun walking around these places and ogling at them and the lifestyles of 18th century monarchy.

Alas, not the original furniture.

I have no idea why anyone would want to put a clock under a birdcage, but there you have it!

Another glass chandelier! Also, apparently the frescoes on the ceiling are done in the Pompeii style (simpler and cleaner, I think)

More of the Pompeii style of fresco. I have to admit, I like this much better than leering satyrs and pudgy cherubim

To do this, apparently people painting the flowers on paper and then pasted the paper on.

BOOKS!

More books! (I have a picture of me next to them too)

Wee figures of the Nativity. I am particularly amused by what they thought Chinese people dressed like.

The grand hallway up to the palace.

The ginormous gardens.

Fish! Everyone complained about the skin, but the fish itself was very good.

Mmmmmm Naples pizza. SO GOOD.

And I had a lot of mussels, which were delicious.

They made us wait forty-five minutes to take a bus from that door to the airplane when it would have been a one minute walk.

And in the Milan airport, we found Lego!Harry, hee.
