I wasn't too impressed with the first two volumes of this manga, but I went and bought vols. 2-5 at the used bookstore anyway, due to people's comments.

First off: I got to meet the giant robot chicken! Whoo!

The best part is that the giant robot chicken is actually quite thoughtful and serious and tragic.

Also, the plot is starting to make just a wee bit more sense.

But really, the main thing is that Kaguya has met Bambi, and Bambi is awesome. Bambi (despite her rather wretched name) cross-dresses to escape her castle, is prickly and cold and mean to Kaguya, which means she secretly is in love with her (what? She is! Also, there needs to be fic). I adore Bambi.

Unfortunately, poor Gold (the emotionless clone/robot boy who is actually a weapon) doesn't get as much page-time, which is sad.

However, Giant Robot Chicken's backstory is explained, which leads to much angsty backstory for the prince with red hair, who cannot touch anyone!

Also, I find that I really like the prince and how he reacts to any emotional stimuli by promptly falling asleep.

The only bad thing is that all bookstores that I visit don't seem to have the next few volumes, which is driving me crazy.

If you find any Bambi centric fic, please let me know. I've been looking.

In a just world, there would be plenty of Kagura/Bambi slash.

Hmm. Maybe it should be one of my Yuletide recs.

The plot always remains teetering on the edge of incomprehensibility, but Bambi and the giant robot chicken never stop being awesome.

I felt like the plot fell right off the edge and plunged into the burning depths of the fiery ocean of incomprehensibility several times, but I decided I didn't care and just kept reading for Bambi, Gold, and Seeyu, once he revealed his major method of dealing with trauma was to fall asleep. It gave me a feeling of kinship with him.
