JoA 1x19 Do the Math

Ok, the show is now back on its regular track (i.e. it made me cry every fifteen minutes or so). But, my god, the storyline with the piano teacher and how bitter she was, and how she never softened up toward Joan or got too mushy, but she went back and played the piece after all. And Will and Richard. Great. Now "Richard" is going to be the default name in my head for the sometimes antagonistic and misunderstood other brother. The scene at dinner was so particularly painful, especially with the kids sitting there afterward. It's scary watching one's parents freak out.

Sigh. But on the other hand, Joan-Adam is starting to irritate me. This annoys me, particularly because I remember the hand-holding scene from "Big Red Boat," and it was so sweet there, but all I could do here was think, "Iris!" and, uh oh, they're not going to kiss are they? Sadly, moment spoiled. But, at least they have resolved the love triangle storyline just when it was getting to the almost unwatchable point for me. I really hate love triangles. Hate. And I really didn't enjoy seeing Joan and Adam cast in the role of "separated lovers" that was done so very not well in Alias. I thought Iris was annoying, but the constant snark from Joan about her (while understandable) was wearing thin on my love for Joan, and watching Adam trying not to seesaw wasn't making his character too endearing either. At least it wasn't dragged out all fricking season (*cough*Alias*cough*). So, good. Air is clear, and thankfully Adam did break up with Iris before kissing Joan, which is more than one can say for Vaughn, who makes me see red in a completely irrational fashion.

The download must have gotten a bad file, because I couldn't watch it =(. I hope I didn't miss a stupendously good episode. From the bits I did see, it looked like the Iris fallout, which I'm sort of glad I missed because it makes me uncomfortable.

JoA 1x21 Vanity, Thy Name Is Human

Awwww... I feel bad for Glynis, but, on the other hand, not so much. I like what they were trying to do with Glynis, having a girl geek and all, but I feel she was just played too over-the-top, especially when compared to the very real-feeling Grace and Joan and Adam and Luke. Friedman is, of course, in a category of his very own.

And it's GothGod touching up his makeup! Whoo!

Other than that, I like that the show wasn't just doing the normal "natural appearance is better" schtick and went on to critique even Adam in the trying-too-hard bit. And Joan's outburst with Adam really hit me, probably because that's what the boy and me are like, except I'm the one going all pretentious about art flicks and whatnot. And the end... awwwwww.
