Spooks/MI-5 4x05 The Book
Wed, Oct. 18th, 2006 10:10 amI love this show so, so much. (I also love my video iPod so, so much, as it inspires me to actually exercise because I can watch Spooks at the same time!)
But yes, this show? It is excellent. Why are more people not watching it?
Yay! I'm so glad that there's a Harry episode! I still want episodes for Ruth, Zaf, and Fiona, Zaf in particular because he's new and I don't know him very well yet. But Harry!
I continue to love that Juliet is amoral and scary, even though in this case, she wasn't the one actually doing Bad Things. But I suspect she is complicit on more than a few things beyond this case. And I suspect Harry isn't innocent either, which is why I love this show so much.
I was yelling at my iPod while running at the scene in which Harry basically blackmails Juliet with the fake book. Not angry yelling, but "OMG so cool!" and "Harry you rock!" yelling. It is a very good thing that I was running by myself.
Other points of yelling in the episode involved the shootout with Zaf, in which I was worried that they might kill him off. I know it's rather irrational, and I don't think they'll kill off a character quite yet, but given S3 and given how this show operates, I know no one is safe, and I love that there is actual suspense and tension every time there is a fight. I don't know who will win and who will make it out unscathed, and that makes for a great viewing experience.
I also continue to adore the Harry-Ruth interaction, particularly her phone call and his incredulous response: "You want me to go over to your house?" I love Ruth so much.
I also loved the awkward hiring moments with poor Zaf.
I'm a little worried about the new person whose name I have already forgotten; I am hoping that the mini-romance thing with Adam will prove to be one-sided. I hate the whole stupid romantic triangle thing. I'm not really that worried though, because the show is very good about these sorts of things. It is probably just latent worry from Alias and all the crazy-making romantic entanglements. And the thing with the car alarms and the cell phone was pretty nifty.
Adam does get partnered off with the woman-of-the-week pretty often though.
That last scene with Harry and the book was great, particularly Harry's expression.

Thu, Oct. 19th, 2006 05:46 pm (UTC)I think it's because I really like the characters and they feel relatively optimistic, and they try, even when they fail.
Re: torture. There are a few episodes that deal explicitly with torture. Usually the show isn't that bloody, but there is psychological torture.

S5 is already up to episode seven? Eep, I am behind on the dling! I hate the wait, but the show is so intense that I can't binge on it either, so... oh well.
