oyceter: Delirium from Sandman with caption "That and the burning baby fish swimming all round your head" (delirium)

I'm finally reading the first three Vampire Diaries books (in the middle of the second one right now) and goodness, the Salvatore brothers are awesome! I didn't think I'd like Stefan very much based on the fourth book because he seemed all like Angel and mopey. Which is fine, and I'm not character bashing, because I do like Angel. I just tend to be attracted to bad attitudes more. But Stefan, definitely cool.

The Google lady called back after receiving the written questionnaire thing, and she says it'd be great if I could fly to California sometime to meet the team. Now I'm confused, because I told her I wasn't going to be available job-wise until around July, what with graduation and family stuff and all that, but I should have enough time in May to fly down there and "meet the team." But I don't even know if this is like a second round interview or a they're probably going to hire me if I'm not a complete psycho type thing. I hope hope hope hope it's the second, because I suck so much at interviews. And then I'd have a job, and I could tell my mom, and I could stop worrying, and life would be lovely.

I can't make myself reread my thesis, mostly because I hate going over my own work. So many glaring errors and stupid mistakes, ugh. But I must do this. I woke up today and realized with a sinking sense of horror that the thing was due exactly two weeks from now! And I still have to edit all of it and write a conclusion! Ugh.

Buffy 7x18 Dirty Girls

My first reaction at the end of the episode: !!!!!

And I had even read all the spoilers too!

Anyway, lots of interesting play on the idea of who was a dirty girl and what made girls dirty. I thought it was really interesting in contrast with Faith, the bad girl, returning, Spike telling Faith that Buffy has been doing some "dirty" sex things, and the idea of misogyny coupled with Xander's pillow fight fantasy.

And I actually didn't mind Xander's fantasy -- it seemed kind of like a send off to the character. Now I think that Xander is going to die instead of Anya, given the makeup sex and all.

Caleb is very frightening, almost like the Mayor in the blend of down-home folksiness and sheer creepiness. Although he's scarier in some sense because he isn't so gleeful -- he's just incredibly sure that he is righteous and right.

And Faith is back again! This makes me very happy, especially since I just watched Bad Girls (oooo parallel!!) for the first time yesterday. I love how her attitude has completely changed from when she was on Angel and knew that she was partially accepted by some people and trusted by Wesley and Angel. Now she's defensive and full of bravado. And I absolutely adored her conversations with Spike, especially in the beginning, when he's trying to convince her he's not evil. It's like the ex-killers on the path to redemption club.

I felt Buffy's being fired was handled realistically, in that Wood isn't firing her because he's mad or anything, but because he's thinking that she needs the time and energy. And that there aren't very many students left to counsel anymore anyway.

I liked Xander's speech and the Buffy/Faith banter right after it. I also loved Faith getting the stake from Buffy's thigh in the beginning.

I hurt because of the Giles/Buffy rift, especially since I just watched Helpless too. I love my season 3 DVDs. But it ended well in Helpless, with the admittance of Giles' father-love, and it just hurts to see how he's not being supportive and being overtly critical of Buffy and how Buffy is completely shutting him out. I think, though, it hurts the most because both Buffy and Giles don't seem to feel as though it hurts. Buffy isn't torn up like she was in Helpless, and neither is Giles -- instead, both of them are entirely convinced that they've done the right thing.

The final battle -- Caleb is really scary. I thought I didn't care about the potentials, but watching the random girls dying and being scared was painful. I also realized that it's very rare in Buffy to watch humans being killed like that in such great numbers, and I kept wanting Buffy to go in, kick some ass, and save them, like she does. And I'm not even going to start thinking about that last scene with Xander, because oh god that hurt.
