1x01 Pilot

I am cautiously curious. Not because I disliked it, but because I have been squee-ish about so many shows before this (FMA, BSG) and have been so lazy about watching them that I don't want to sound alarm bells yet. I think, strangely, a portion of this is because I have to watch those shows on my computer, where I cannot play with rats or knit comfortably.

Anyhow, I tivoed this per everyone's suggestion ;). I suspect I am somewhat spoiled, as I watched part of "Betty and Veronica" randomly on Tivo, so I think I already know who Jake Kane is visiting. Oh well.

I like Veronica. I like that she has the guts to cut down Wallace and I like that she is prickly. The actress playing her has a sort of sweet look and a sort of sweet voice, but what she says completely contradicts that image, which I like.

I did feel the flashbacks tried a little too hard to make me like Veronica or to explain her prickliness or something, which I didn't particularly need because I like my recalcitrant heroines. Well, it wasn't all of the flashbacks. Just the two shots of her with one or two tears perfectly spilling down her cheeks that looked entirely too staged and entirely too delicate for Veronica.

I felt so, so, so bad for her waking up the day after in her white dress.

Anyway, so far, I like Veronica, I think I like her dad, I like Wallace a lot for some reason, and I detest Logan. Ugh. I know apparently Logan and Veronica is the big fandom pairing, but, ugh. I want to bash his head in for the way he treats her in this ep. Hrm, this may mean I am already identifying with Veronica or something, because this is my "Don't hurt Buffy!" reaction.

I didn't particularly like the ending of the episode, as it seems to try to hard to tie things together and come to a lovely pat conclusion.

Luckily, yhlee is acting as my crack dealer and spreading the VM love, so I don't have to decide if I want to Tivo this or the new Tim Minear show.

I felt the same way about the pilot. For me, I liked the show to begin with, but didn't love. Around the fourth or fifth episode, things really start clicking together, though. Characters that seem one-dimensional, like Logan, the garden variety bully, start becoming very interesting. Depths start being revealed in the characters' relationships, and the flashbacks that detail Veronica's transformation to ditzy (on the outside), popular girl to weathered sleuth becomes even more interesting. So, yeah, stick with it, if you can. It gets most excellent.

Seconded, seconded. The characters are all complex, screen chemistry, interesting and flawed...very minor characters get their own episode arcs, some of them good indeed...I'm sorry. I'm heading into squee territory. ^_^

Kristin Bell impresses me incredibly the more I look back on the show, and I was pretty impressed by her to begin with. And I love Wallace! And Keith! *dissolves into squeeing again*

I'm glad it has complex characters! I was just encouraged by the fact that Wallace was black and seems to have a good role. Hopefully it won't turn smaller.

Am still angry at Logan right now though.

^_^ Well, I just got the mp3 from my sister (I own the CD, but it's AWOL and my backups malfunctioned) so I can continue clipping...^_^ And believe me, clipping will take something like a month because I do it an episode at a time, and then the rough cut to an acceptable plea-for-beta cut will take at least another month. I am a slow vidder. And I'm guessing go-rounds with any kind beta comments ;-) will require at least another month of fixes...yeah. I feel like I'm starting to get a better handle on things I did in "Between" that now look like total fixable mistakes, and there are more things I want to learn to do, and...and...

Wallace continues to have good role.

There are many good reasons to be angry at Logan, especially at this point of the game. *wry grin*

Okie ^_^. Also, I think Yoon is sending me eps, so hee! And after watching the second episode of The Inside tonight, this is starting to look extremely rosy in comparison, if only for the fact that Veronica could so be played as a victim and I am so happy that they didn't do that. She's tough. I like her.

And thank you for reminding me that I have to find some way of watching both it (I missed a big chuck of episodes near the middle; where are you DVDs???) and The Inside tonight. Grr.

Ooooo, I've decided I'm skipping The Inside now! I watched an ep and a half and felt like screaming at the TV and/or bashing my head against a wall. Sick to death of pretty blonde victims. Veronica Mars seems to have way more of a spine, despite being a high schooler instead of an FBI profiler.

D00d, there are some ways in which Buffy could take lessons from Veronica Mars, like seriously intelligent planning and subterfuge. (Although Veronica could take some lessons in ethics and fictive family from Buffy...)

I posit that if you imported Veronica Mars into Angel, she would bust Angel's balls, make hash of Cordelia, fox Wesley completely, amuse Gunn a heck of a lot, and in general destroy the universe.

Yeeeah, I don't know about The Inside. I think I like Web's creepiness, and the struggle between him and . . . what's his name, Paul, right? . . . enough to give it a couple more episodes. So far it seems very much less like a show and Rebecca and very much more like a show about the two men. In my best case scenario, once they set up the whole Paul/Web thing, Rebecca will completely subvert both their attempts at using her (because that's all she really is right now, a tool caught between the two of them-- I mean, she isn't really even our pov character, no one really is), and totally change the show in some very important way. But my best case scenarios don't happen often. :)

Yeeaaah, The Inside is driving me crazy. I like Web's creepiness and I like the potential for messed-up-ness and greyness and moral dilemmas, but I detest the currently unaddressed gender issues, which seems to be more and more of a big deal for me. Alas.

And I am irked that the other two people on Web's team are getting no screentime!

I think I'll keep on it once I can get my hands on all the eps. And hey, it is good that I don't feel like sporking my eyes out over the gender issues!
