IBARW conclusion
Mon, Jul. 24th, 2006 03:29 pmWow, that was a hectic week!
However.....
You can still blog about racism! Truly, no one will descend upon you from high and say, "Nay! It is not International Blog Against Racism Week, and verily, you shall be smitten with flaming objects of DOOM for your heretical post!"
Or anything like that.
Obviously, no one needs permission from anyone, much less me, to blog about anything.
But I figured I'd put this out there as a bit of a reminder to people.
Me, I've still got to write up all the books on race and racism that I've read over the week, along with books by POC, along with posts on terminology, Taiwan, "But POC are racist too!" and assorted other things I think about along the way.
And I haven't even read all the posts written this week, much less commented.

Tue, Jul. 25th, 2006 02:30 am (UTC)I like your casting posts! It's good and concrete, and also something that I know absolutely nothing about and don't think about either. So it is quite enlightening.

Wed, Jul. 26th, 2006 08:40 pm (UTC)....I love Cate Blanchett, but I didn't think Galadriel was _that_ blonde and fluffy. Could be utterly wrong, since I don't remember her actual physical description....

Tue, Jul. 25th, 2006 05:58 am (UTC)I am such a geek.
Too bad I do not have the energy or imagination to attempt a weekly IBARW webcomic featuring such weapons.
Or any webcomic featuring such weapons.

Tue, Jul. 25th, 2006 06:10 am (UTC)While I was away at the weekend, I picked up a free copy of The Merchant's House (http://www.piatkus.co.uk/display.asp?type=book&isbn=0%207499%203699%201) by Kate Ellis (http://www.kateellis.co.uk/). Black detective moves from London to Devon ('the UK's whitest county' IIRC from a recent documentary) and has an entire series of mysteries to solve (I've ordered the next four while the publisher's got a sale on). The racism sub-plot of the first book hasn't been covered in as much detail as I was expecting from the reviews I read, but maybe that's to come in later books.
Just thought I'd mention the books here as well on my own LJ as I like the formula that Kate Ellis is set up (the mystery Wesley is investigating in each story (judging by the first book and the blurb for the others) is mirrored in some way by an archaeological mystery his friend Neil is researching) and I like the plotting and the characters, though the dialogue feels a little clunky in places.
