Well, I've been rather uncommunicative with my LJ lately... Guess it's probably because there's not much going on here. I sleep late, debate whether I should buy more groceries or make another library run, attempt to feed myself (generally disastrous), and check to see if the roses have died yet (nope! still going...).
Then I try to stay out of people's ways because they keep asking me if I have a job. It's rather embarrassing, because I don't. Even the bookstore I applied to didn't call me back. That seems kind of sad -- I can't manage to get a job doing book retail. Hrm. Maybe am intrinsically unemployable.
So my first wish of the day would be for people to stop asking me if I have a job. Then they should stop asking me what I want to do, because I haven't a clue. Then... hrm. They could feed me? Or tell me sitting around and hunting down out of print books in the library is a worthwhile pasttime, although I rather suspect it isn't.
Dum de dum... off to waste yet more time.

Hugs! I've totally been there!
Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 03:02 am (UTC)Best of luck to you in your search... I know it can be frustrating (yeah, I know, total understatement), but I've been told that persistance does pay off.
Just a thought: why don't you start volunteering at the library? You can put volunteer work down as being current work experience when you apply for jobs.
And don't be afraid to call the book store yourself--they probably receive a pile of applications and just need a little push to dig yours out of the pile.
And if all else fails... become a perpetual student and live off student loans for the rest of your life. :)

Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 03:11 am (UTC)I should ask if they need volunteers... I went online to look for openings, but it didn't seem like there were any =(. Must also push self to stop being shy. I'm so bad at doing all the resume pushing stuff and advertising myself.

Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 03:23 pm (UTC)I'm also pretty shy when it comes to making follow up calls. So call up, ask to speak with the Manager and say, "Hi, this is Oyceter McOyceter. I dropped off an application for the book seller position and I'm calling to follow up." Hopefully this will give them enough incentive to go fish out your resume. "I'd love to be able to sit down with you for an interview, how does Tuesday morning sound to you?" Pick a day that's a few days away, so they don't feel rushed... and always ask for a morning interview, there won't be as many customers in the store and so they won't feel as rushed.

Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 03:46 am (UTC)Dude. Totally with you. If one more well-meaning auntie or uncle comes up to me and asks how the job-hunting is going, I'm gonna scream. Seriously.
Don't worry, we'll find something soon. I'm sure of it! Kinda... :P
(Sorry for the surfer-speak. Watching The O.C. is really affecting my slang! Dude!)

Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 04:00 pm (UTC)Don't feel bad about not being able to get retail jobs. I had five different versions of my resume at one point, one was extremely dumbed down after I'd been called into several interviews only to be told that they couldn't understand why I was applying for the job. I was told that there was no point in hiring me since I would just leave when something better came along. Well yes, I wish I'd replied, have you seen the pay you're offering?
This will pass, don't worry. You will find something.

Wed, Aug. 13th, 2003 08:33 pm (UTC)Exactly ^_^. Really, it would be nice to be paid money so I could buy more Buffy DVDs.... sigh.
And thanks, I feel a bit better.
