Rats + knitting picture spam

I am a mean rat mom. I put my rats in a paper bag and carried them around. In my defense, it was a paper bag filled with the leftover paper wrapping that my sub came in, and my rats are extremely fond of paper bags and old sandwich wrappings. I think they would be ecstatic if I ever let them dig through the trash can.








And now, for my two ongoing knitting projects:

This is my very ugly hooded sweater that is now in progress. Look! I seamed the shoulders! I have made actual seams! I feel very proud of myself ;).

The bit on the needle is the larger portion of the first sleeve.


And this is my pretty scarf made from the pattern at Knitty:


I love the yarn, even though it's impossible to work with. It's ok to work with, actually, until you make a mistake (of which I have made many). Then all the long fuzzy bits get all tangled together, making it very difficult to unknit. Gr. Of course, if I paid attention to what I was doing instead of watch TV, I might not make so many mistakes, but let's not go there.

The little flower is the first thing I ever crocheted! It's so round! Sorry. I am still amazed how fast you can change direction in crochet.

I LOVE rats. I had them as pets when I was a kid. I'd love to have some again now, except, well, that wouldn't be fair to either the rats or Max the Champion Predator.

The cuteness of little balled-up rats!

I so want to try that scarf, but I'm barely past plain old knitting and purling and am intimidated by the pattern. My cousin is knitting it too, and I keep looking at it and salivating. Which yarn are you using?

It was actually not that bad! I've never done lace before, or pretty much anything except knitting and purling, and if you just follow the pattern really carefully, it works fine. My biggest problem was that I'd keep getting distracted and dropping stitches. I'm using Paton's Divine in Chantilly Rose (just got it at Michael's) because it was fuzzy and pink!

The sweater et. al. look great! I am very impressed with your rapid progress. You have come a long way from the RUS in such a short time. Isn't the branching scarf fun? I haven't gotten sick of the pattern yet, I made myself a smaller version out of a (substantial) scrap ball of silky wool. I only did the lace pattern this time and eliminated the garter stitch border. It's a lighter, lacier effect that I like equally. It makes a nice take-the-edge-off-the-air-conditioning scarf.

I really love the branching scarf, and it's so pretty! I think I shall try your non-garter stitch border idea next, because I want to make lots to give away. Does it curl up on the sides any?

Oh, the wee rats! I would love to have both rats and rabbits someday, but right now we have four cats and a very predatory dog (I've lost count of how many rabbits she's killed in our yard), so the small pets are just going to have to wait.

Ooh, yeah, the rats and the cats and dog probably wouldn't get along so well =(. I really want a cat as well, but my rats were terrified of the last cat they saw, so no can do...

What happy cute rats! Actually, cats are fools for paper bags, too, but have to be in control (first hide in them, then kill them, then hide in them some more).

And gorgeous knitting. Especially love the grey--well, also really love the pattern of the pink.

Hee, I love the image of cats killing bags! I think my rats try to kill them too. I always hear much happy shredding going about inside the cage at four in the morning.

You made me happy with your adorable rat pics! And clearly made Fitz-rat and Fool-rat happy by popping them in a bag together. (I continue to think that the original Fool and Fitz would have ended up very happy indeed if the author had contrived to have them stuffed into a bag together and left there for a while.) I used to carry my rats inside my shirt.

Hee, I think Hobb definitely should have just stick Fitz and the Fool together and left them there instead of doing what she did. Alas.
