oyceter: Two of my rats in a tissue box (rat)
[personal profile] oyceter
Alas, today has been a great disappointment. I went to the mall to look for the slouchy, flat boots I found that were on sale two days ago with my mom (that store didn't have the size) and this store didn't have the boots at all. So then I trooped over to Macy's to look for the brand of jeans that I got on sale last week to get another pair. It's hard to find jeans that fit. Might as well snatch them up when they're there! But the people at Macy's had never heard of the brand, and now I'm starting to wonder if it's imaginary. Except my jeans are sitting in my dresser. At least, I'm pretty sure they are.

ETA: And I tried to mail Totoro to [livejournal.com profile] rahael at the handy automated 24-hour post office, but they don't do international =(. But I managed to do it at Long's. So Rah, it's on its way!

Btw, the automated 24-hour post office machine is really, incredibly neat. I want one.

And because some people asked for it... Big Rat Pictures, aka more rat spam!

I never pass up an opportunity to make people ogle at my pets ;). Mostly this is because most people look at them and think, "Ew." Poor ratties.

Fitz-rat pretending to read the Wired article on anime. In reality, he is probably contemplating eating it.

Fitz-rat preening while being scritched between the shoulders.

Fool-rat deciding to venture out of the protective cover of blankets.

Fool-rat either sniffing at my fingers or trying to reach for a treat. Probably sniffing, given that his paws aren't waving around in the air.

Awww... So adorable. Your ratties are so cute. I've had three rats in my life, but now that I have cats I can't have any more, so I like to ogle other people's. Hooded rats are my favorites.

And here we see the perils of reading LJ out of sequence. Here are the rat pictures! Aww, they look adorable. And v well-groomed and sleek and well-loved. (The sniffing picture is really disgustingly cute. SO cute. The little paws!)

Oh ghod, you should hear me around my cats. "Woojums" is about the least embarrassing thing I saw.

(And c'mon, da PAWSIES!)

This is sickening, but our little calico, Tania, is so sweet I call her after desserts -- "Tania cupcake! Tania angel-food! Tania creme brulee!" while the husband and the other cat both look on in total disapproval. "Sweetie pie" went from "sweetness pie" to "pie of sweetness," so you can see how bad it gets....her nicknames are Sugar and Sweetie and Baby. I don't believe I'm revealing this on the net.

Well the other thing she gets called is Tania Lasagna because, yes, it rhymes....we don't do this with our other cat, although he is The Dude. Or The Guy, The Little Guy, The Little Nipper, and so on. I think Tim would rebel if I tried to call Max anything bakery-goods-related....

So adorable! How easy/hard is it to care for rats? (Have never had a pet. Except for the goldfish our family managed to kill in record time, not intentionally.)

Rats are very easy pets to care for. They need a cage, food, and water; the cage needs to be cleaned, and the rats need to be taken out and played with regularly, taking care that they don't escape and hide within the bowels of the sofa. They're very intelligent and affectionate, and you can teach them amusing tricks and turn them into circus rats, if you have lots of spare time and enjoy that sort of thing.

The big drawback is that their natural lifetime is very short-- four years maximum, and usually three. That's the other reason I stopped keeping them.

Your rats are so cute! I'd want some of my own, if N didn't hate rats so much. I can't really blame him, though - he had a huge one terrorizing his apartment. Ah well, I'll have to settle for a cat ;).

He had this one huge black rat the size of his arm who was terrorizing the apt for months. When they finally caught it, he was so excited that he took pictures of it with his camera phone, and called me at 8:30 in the morning to let me know that the evildoer had been vanquished. :D

Which Macy's did you go to? And what's the brand of the jeans? I can tell you where they might be.

I'm currently on the hunt for flat tall boots. Maybe in tan or black.

GLO? Are you sure it's not J.Lo? At the Stanford location did you find them in the Junior's dept.?

The boots are cute. I saw them at the Macy's in Union Square. I'm leaning towards these (http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=129665&CategoryID=15351&LinkType=EverGreen) or these (http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=125038&CategoryID=15352&LinkType=EverGreen).

Shopping is my therapy. It's also sometimes a very demanding mistress.

Awwww!

[livejournal.com profile] redredshoes sent me here to see rattie pictures and I've just melted all over my computer chair. I had rats a long long time ago and now I keep mice. I absolutely love my mice to death, but they're not as affectionate as rats. They're still very cute and smart and fun, but you won't catch them hanging out on my shoulder for fun like my rats did.

Your rats are adorable. They look smart, and healthy, and beautiful. Especially I loved the picture of the rat sniffing at something.
