I hate Verizon

So I've had my phone for less than a month now. First the phone company takes forever just activating the service, despite people telling me they would do it the next day. When I call and ask them about this, they insist that they never said such a thing, and it could take up to a week. So when I call back to check and see, the people then proceed to tell me that Verizon does not operate my phone number despite a) my apartment people telling me they do and b) having called up Verizon to get the phone number in the first place a few days ago. Right after that call, another person calls and says they've activated my number. I confirm that I have the simple local plan, option 1 of the long distance plan, and international calling. All is well.

Then I try registering online to pay my bills. The service repeatedly does not let me do this. Finally, today, I go on some online customer help chat and ask the guy what's wrong. He says wait a full thirty days and it should work. Fine, I say, and thank you.

But then, every time I try to make a long distance call, some stupid voice over the phone keeps telling me that I cannot dial this number because I need a long distance access code. WTF? I think. I repeatedly call them and get put on hold each time. Today's message was about www.verizon.com/avenue. I finally go to that website and find, lo and behold, I can register THERE to pay online. Why has no one told me this before, including guy above who has my phone number? Furthermore, this must be why people keep telling me I do not have a Verizon phone number, thankyouverymuch, despite the fact that I am holding a Verizon phone bill in my hands at this moment.

Anyway, I finally get through to customer service and tell them my problem. I can't really understand what the guy is saying on the phone, but he asks when my last long distance call was. I tell him. He tells me to try again and gives me his direct number to call back. I try, same problem. I try calling his line to find out to my great joy that he has given me a long distance number. Yes. So I can't get through to him at all because I CAN'T CALL LONG DISTANCE. I try calling the 800 number again to be put on hold for god knows how long. While I'm on the phone, I diddle around online to find that my phone bill does not include long distance. Fine, I say. Obviously someone has screwed up my number and not given me long distance. I try to order it online, because nothing with customer service works well, but they won't let me get it unless I'm ordering local at the same time. Apparently no one has thought that a person might get local first and then long distance. I have no idea. So I finally get through and press the button for changing my account, thinking that I'll just bypass this entire problem and just order my long distance. I get the same guy (why do they make us do all the menus if we just go to the same people anyway?). He remembers me and asks why I didn't call back. I grit my teeth and explain I CAN'T CALL LONG DISTANCE very slowly. The guy puts me on hold again and tells me there's nothing wrong with my line. Fine. Then he says they will try disconnecting my long distance and reconnecting it to see if it will make a difference. Ok, thanks, I say. He then tells me to call 00 for some reason to talk to those guys. Then I hang up and call them. Guess what? I get the same voice telling me I can't call long distance because I need a long distance access code.

ARGH!

So now I can't decide if I should call customer service AGAIN or just wait till tomorrow.

I hate Verizon with the passion of a thousand fiery suns.

Ugh, tell me about it. The ebuyer hold noise? A beep. An irritating, repetetive beep. I was homicidal by the time I spoke to someone.
