oyceter: Delirium from Sandman with caption "That and the burning baby fish swimming all round your head" (delirium)

I walked by a dead rat on the street yesterday, which basically sums up my entire week.

Things have been dead at work, but the bad sort of dead that leads to endlessly refreshing of LJ and boredom, all while knowing that in a few days, everything will come crashing down on your head. All the projects that I made time for ended up being late, which means instead of coming in and being busy, they will all come in at once in a mad rush (that would be yesterday).

I end up going home tired from work. Then I don't want to do the dishes or clean the kitchen, which leads to not cooking, which leads to eating things that aren't great for me, which leads to feeling out of shape. And I've missed wushu twice already, and I really want to go see it, at the very least to make friends and get some sort of workout. Maybe next week.

Of course, everything in my personal life is crazy like a crazy thing.

And I have actually been writing instead of reading, which is about a hundred times more nerve-wracking and neurotic and reminds me why I don't write to begin with. It's actually at the point in which I am sick of my own neuroticness! (and I have a high tolerance for my own neuroticness)

Oh well. Looking forward to a weekend in Yosemite next month, as well as sitting down tonight, cleaning the kitchen, reading Have His Carcase for the first time and possibly making bean soup.

To stop complaining about everything, here is Happy List #5462

1. I have jeans with sparkly things down the sides, and they are cute and sparkly and flare!

2. Finding that I actually really like Have His Carcase so far after reading 2 1/2 Sayers books and failing miserably at liking them.

3. Frog socks! I'm sure it's been on the list before, but they still make me happy.

4. Saiyuki Gaiden reincarnation fic from [livejournal.com profile] edonohana! Actually, it more broke my heart than made me happy. But in a good way.

5. I help paint a house tomorrow! I am strangely intrigued by this, given that I never did much house-fix-it type stuff as a kid.

6. I spilled a little Shanghai on myself this morning when putting it on, so I can still smell the lovely lemongrass-tea-honeysuckle-ness of it now.

7. I finished my first crochet piece of clothing! It is beautiful! I am also too lazy to weave in all the ends, but oh well.

8. I think I shall go to Michael's today to buy yarn for [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and to get myself crochet thread to start a new project! Whoo!

What's made you happy lately?

What's made you happy lately?

1. Writing tragic and heartbreaking Saiyuki Gaiden reincarnation fic. ;) No, really.

2. The upcoming weekend in Yosemite.

3. Reading Laurie Colwin's books on food, Home Cooking and More Home Cooking, which you would love.

4. Making steady progress on one of my current paying projects.

5. Having brunch at Clementine tomorrow with Halle and Sherwood.

6. Um, I still love my couch?

Which two and a half Sayers did you read? I remember you read Strong Poison.

When you're done--and only then--go into [livejournal.com profile] truepenny's memories because she has much of great interest to say about _HHC_. She even made me like it, and I've never liked it.

Happiness: getting antibiotics for my sinus infection.

IROSF buying my Sunday-at-Boskone report.

Getting asked to work on something that's going to be submitted to the Supreme Court.

Kimono Rose by The Thymes. Rosie and Sara, both asleep and curled around but not on my foot. getting through the day. It is nice to be home. My company paying for me to go somewhere, and me saying there is a Con there that weekend and I'll go halves, and they offering to cover all of the plane fare and hotel for the weekend. Virtual *hugs*. Hearing that I helped a friend get through a bad stretch. Walking outside without a jacket and the wind playing with my hair. jon wanting to post The Troll, and then elise saying that she liked Faunboy so much. Reading Solstice Wood and how it played with Winter Rose, and reading basho, and reading Breathe Poetry and finding a poem that spoke. Reading you on LJ.

Cactus flowers!

C. J. Cherryh has a new Foreigner book out, and my copy should get here next week sometime.

There's a non-negligible chance of actual rain this weekend, in dry-as-bone Tucson. (My boss is refusing to wash his car until it comes; we reckon he should just do it so it can go ahead and rain.)

If it's not too late, you should read Saiyuki before Gaiden, by the way.

Also, congratulations!!!!

--There's this cashier at my local grocery store, a teenager, who rocks the house. It always makes me cheerful when she takes my order, because she's very quick, and smiling without being invasive.

--Shiny clean windows on my car.

Also, hugs.

Sparkly jeans and fun socks are definitely awesome. ^^

Lately I've been happy because:
--I'm temping at a place with fun people.
--we had a chance to finish rewatching Firefly.
--I feel like I've started connecting much more with someone I've liked and admired for a long time.
--I have my first new cds in quite a while, and I love them both.

And this reminds me that I've been meaning to join [livejournal.com profile] five_smiles for quite a while now. Anything that makes me focus on good things instead of bad things is probably a good idea.

Happy things are indeed good. ^^ And I'm not great at optimism sometimes, so it's good to be reminded of them.

I don't know why I keep dithering about actually joining the community--it's small, friendly, and a good idea . . . and I heard about it from a friend who's a member, so it should be easy. (He did tell me that it's open to everyone, though. ^^)
