Oh dear. I went down to the used bookstore to sell some of my books and ended up finding vols. 3-4 of Alice 19th in Japanese. I willfully resisted, but once I have trade credit, I fear I will relapse. I need to stop buying books in non-English because I will never read them! And yet... three dollars each!

So then, of course, I decided to head over to Books, Inc. and proceeded to end up getting Fruits Basket 4, Saiyuki Reload 1 (I miss Minekura art. I need to scout for artbooks when I go home), a gift for a friend, and Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief. I haven't even started reading all the books I got while I was in NY, or even the books I got when [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija was here. I think I need a book-buying hiatus.

The sad thing is that in the back of my mind, the book-buying hiatus is littered with loopholes (It doesn't count if I get manga! It doesn't count if I get stuff with gift certificates or trade credit!).

Also, I curse all of you who have gotten me back into manga and so impatient that I cannot even wait a month for my Amazon gift certificate to get more Fruits Basket. The only reason I stopped at only one volume was becuase vol. 5 was in bad shape and they didn't have another copy.

I curse you all to be deluged with too many good book recs and have no willpower to resist!

*madly cackles*

You mean that's not the default state?

If you only said, "I curse you to have always needed more shelves," it could be like Delirium's curse of Mazikeen in Brief Lives.

This is what I was thinking in the Narita aiport bookstore, but I still walked away with lots and lots of manga!

I've just ordered the first two Salty Dog artbooks. I can't wait until they get here!

EEE! Saiyuki Gaiden, any volumes that are out, please. Oh, and Wild Adapter likewise. I'll pay you back!

How much do artbooks cost in Taiwan, with the exchange rate? Because I think I can get most of the Minekura ones in Kinokuniya; they're just expensive.

I want non-perishable goodies, plus lots and lots of food-blogging. With photos. Take a photo of a mangosteen!

Just the manga, I think. For those I have text translations bookmarked, and also I think they have some of Minekura's prettiest art. (I don't love Wild Adapter the way I love Saiyuki, but it's got better art. I wish it would get licensed.)

*baffled* . . . you talk about impending Furuba addiction like it's a bad thing. ^_-

Now I want new books. *sighs*

. . . I feel obliged to warn you that the anime includes a chunk of material from vol. 8 as well, due to the last quarter (maybe the last third?) of the anime storyline being shuffled out of the correct order of events. However, there's a completely-unanimated chapter in vol. 6, some new material in vol. 7, and most of vol. 8 *is* new. 8 is the first of my favorite volumes--it's where I discovered that Kyo wasn't my favorite character after all. ^_^

She breaks my heart and makes me smile in all sorts of ways, all at once. *bliss* (I remain irrationally bitter that the anime cut the first reference to her, which happens in a chunk that *was* animated. I know perfectly well that referring to a character who wouldn't be in the show would have been idiotic, but I still want them to acknowledge her. -_-)

. . . do you know anything about her, or have you managed to stay unspoiled? (Which may be a silly question, since you read this journal, but I try to be careful about spoiler cuts . . . )

and that there's something with her and Hatsuharu.

*nods* There is indeed--one of those lovely subplots that comes out in bits and pieces and is full of misdirection and hints. *happy shivers*
