I have internet!!!!

I also have an apartment and all sorts of stuff. Unfortunately some essential pieces of furniture, like my couch, my dining table and my bookshelves don't get here till August. So my apartment is a mess. It's just been this huge pain setting up because the cell phone reception in here is absolutely lousy, and I haven't gotten a landline yet. So communicating with anyone outside the apartment is a bit of a pain. These past few days, mostly I've just been unpacking, cleaning, and determining other things I need to buy. And every time I start cleaning up, I think of more things I need, like hangers or bookshelves or something. Or a filing cabinet. Then I have to figure out where to get it, then I get it and forget what I was doing. Haven't even started cooking yet because I don't have plates.

At least my bedroom is in a fairly presentable state (though the bookshelves are in horrible disorder).

I still don't like driving. At all. It makes me all nervous and tense. So I got a bike so I can do healthy things like bike to the public library (woohoo), except the first day I try to ride it, I nearly get run over. The walk sign stays on for the length of time it takes to get approximately halfway across the street. Then the cars get to go, except I'm still stuck in the middle of the street. So I kept going, because, hey, Middle of the Street, just wanted to get to the other side, except this car just kept going and tried to run me over or something. It was very nervewracking.

Pictures of my apartment below (very messy, see above explanation):

Okay, now I feel shamed. My room is messier than that, and I don't have the excuse of moving apartments. :P Looks nice in the pics, though. Spacey and airy.

Let us know when a whole new lifeform evolves in the sink. That's always fun. ;)

Wow! Nice! Hey, are you remote loading the pics or does your ISP do it? It's one thing I haven't done yet.

And I 'grok' on the move thing. Family in the east and I spent so much time in the West and then that year in Iceland. No car no internet nuff said.

Thing is:

1) I think I had to go away to come home again if that makes any sense... to learn me?

2) Alone can really clarify crystalize things. Even recently we had a bad icestorm which cut power for a day (it got down to thirty degress BTW) and although it was very hard; it was really good too. I changed a lot after that. At least I hope it was for the good!

Anyway, hope it works that way for you. I still get itchy feet now that I'm tied down... so of course, I'm envious!

PS Reading a new book called "Alternative Worlds in Fantasy Fiction" and I was thinking of you. They did a section on the history of fantasy... lots of yound adult and children's fiction. I'll have more to add to your list sometime. The body of the book is on the worlds of Ursela LeGuin, Terry Pratchett and Philip Pullman.

It's part of a series that's critical analysis of children's lit (those of us who can't go back to school for our Master's quite yet must make our own fun!) and they are (judging by Introduction) a good but fairly easy read. Just hard enough to engage. Only 174pages. Other books in the series:

Children at War
A Guide to the Harry Potter Novels
Family Fictions
Frightening Fiction

It's of course published in UK (snarky remark) BUT one of the author's is Millicent Lenz, Assoc Prof at SUNY Albany my home town (whoohoo)...Oyce have to run for a few minutes... Ben has to use the phone.

Oh and thanks for the offer!
