I ended up having, for dessert, lemon sherbet (with tiny curlicues of lemon peel in it) served in a martini glass on top of some cherry compote, over which I poured a little beaker of rosewater syrup. Mmm, so tangy and cold! When I took sips of hot spiced tea, I could feel my tongue thawing, and my taste buds would sort of react again to the tart lemon.
