oyceterThere's nothing like taking a nice, hot shower and suddenly being confronted with that age-old question: should I rinse the conditioner out of my hair and possibly die in my shower or run out panicking at the fire alarm sopping wet and sudsy?
I rinsed, then ran out sopping wet, but un-sudsy.
In my defense, I thought the alarm had gone off because of shower steam (it's happened to me before, though in a different place).

fannishly and I then ran about in a blind panic trying to figure out how to disable the alarm for fear of the neighbors, who once sent an extremely snarky and mean letter about the noise levels here. After a few minutes of running to and fro in a panic, I went into my room to change into something that wasn't a towel and realized that the alarms were going off outside too. And people were milling about outside. And I heard sirens. So we both grabbed keys (essential, as I have been locked out of my room in the dorms several times during fire alarms), and I shoved the poor rats into their carrying case. They had been cowering in the darkest corner of the cage, probably scared to the death by the godforsaken wailing of the alarms.
Anyhow, everything is ok -- I think it was a bit of smoke in the garage or something, but wow, that got the adrenaline rushing. Next time, we have decided that instead of trying to disable the alarm, we will calmly poke our heads outside, see if the outside alarms are ringing, and then calmly evacuate with rats and keys if need be.
Gah.

Thu, Aug. 11th, 2005 04:23 am (UTC)PSA LOL, if that happens, then the alarm is faulty. A fireman told me that when we had it happen to us one night when it kept going off repeatedly due to high humidity.
Glad nothing serious happened.
