I love Faith and Angel. I think I may like them even more than Faith and Buffy, despite the cool body-switching dark shadow type thing. I like that when they first meet, they only know each other through their connection through Buffy, one is her fellow Slayer, the other is her boyfriend, and they pretty much have absolutely no interaction unless it's via Buffy. But then Faith gets on Angel, and Angel starts to grok her as an individual. Here's someone like him, who is perhaps past redemption, who has done bad things and has no idea what to do with herself. I just love the moment in the rain where Faith tries to commit suicide via Angel and ends up crying in his arms. I also love the moment when Wes breaks Faith out of jail because he knows she's the one person who knows that killing Angelus is absolutely not an option. Angel never gave up on her, especially not when it really mattered, and Faith's not about to give up on him either.
I like that the two have a connection that even Buffy, quite possibly the most important person in both of their lives, can't break. And I like them because I think they illuminate one of my favorite parts of Angel the show -- it's a show about people who have done bad things and who can't make those bad things right again. That's what separates it from Buffy the character and Buffy the show, because while Buffy has done bad things, it's never been like that. I love Angel because of this thread of redemption, because the characters in Angel like Angel and Faith keep striving for redemption even when they're pretty much positive that it's out of reach, just because it's the right thing to do. Waaaaaaah!! I miss my show =(
Ok, I admit it, I have a secret shipper fondness for Giles and Anya! It's just the cute way she says "I'm blonde too" when he comes back during "Grave." Also I blame this one fic I read (I think it was byjennyo
And since I'm talking about TV shows, I shall take this moment to evangelize my current favorite show...
... Good Eats!
Yes, a food show! Not a fannish show! But it totally amuses me and I love it and watch it religiously. Actually, it makes up the bulk of what's on my Tivo, heh heh. For anyone who didn't know, Good Eats is a show hosted by Alton Brown, half an hour of AB teaching you how to cook. Yes, yes, it sounds boring! But Alton Brown is a food scientist, and so he tries teaching the general principles of cooking via food science (celebrate the geekiness!) and uses really, really awesome yet totally dorky demonstration methods for said food science. I think one of my favorites was using the Johnny Carson show as a metaphore for the perfect meatloaf.
Also included are wacky facts and strange recurring characters -- W supplies him with snark and cooking hardware and always gets the James Bond theme playing in the background (and she's Asian!), there's the mad French chef, Paul the dorky assistant who sometimes turns into LeverMan!, and assorted other folk.
Plus, what totally won me over was that Alton Brown watches Monty Python and totally does spoofs of them! What?? It's a Food Network show! With Monty Python spoofs! How could I not love it?
Anyhow, this Good Eats ad has been brought to you by the sushi episode, which made me very happy because a) it featured ethnic food! And because from what I know, Alton Brown actually was right! Ok, some of the little factoids were more local legend than actual fact, but that's the case for most of the factoids. I mean... he actually got the food preparation bit right and knew things like eating sushi with fingers is good and that real wasabi isn't that green paste stuff! b) it had the Sushi Nazi! No sushi for you! c) maybe it means Alton Brown will be doing more shows on non-European type food! Which is good for me because I like that and I want to know the food science behind it!
