Isn't time supposed to be irrelevant on the internet? I.e. if I am in Taiwan and it is five in the afternoon here and five in the morning on the east coast, shouldn't I still be able to pay my bills online? Why can't I? This is extremely silly.

Grrrr.

I also desperately want to read the new Harry Potter, but I suspect I will not be able to get my hands on it in Taiwan. So I must wait three whole weeks! Argh. It's ok though... I wait much much longer for many books I want to read to finally come out in paperback so I can buy them. Just annoyed I can't read everyone else's opinions on it yet.

I know! Part of the problem is my fault, since I refuse to give out my home number (just my office) and they seem to have an obsession with collecting it. I got into a spat with them over this last week. That and I ended up paying for a book that I had returned... I wouldn't mind if I actually had the book and it was something I might have actually reread. But they have a history of this, twice before I had to go find books on the shelves that they claimed hadn't been returned. Part of the problem (and I suspect this is at the root of the phone number thingy too) is the computer system and scanning... they seem to forget to scan them back in quite often!

Well, I'll have to keep at the Potter book (I'm having trouble getting into it). TCH has been blurbing it in Rah's journal so it seems worth the effort. It's over 800 pages (not a huge amount of words to the page so it goes quick) which is pretty long for a YA book; but I think Goblet was up there too. Other than that, I didn't pick up the swans book (no regrets) and I didn't pick up the McKillip (some regrets and I may fix this later in the week).

! I thought I was the only one that happened to! I've had several experiences when the library says I haven't returned a book when I have. It's quite annoying.. I always feel like bringing it out and waving it in their faces. Although I suppose the computers make lots of mistakes, given the nature of computers.

It does seem rather enormous for YA, but I love the fact that lots of kids are excited about the extra page length instead of intimidated. I know I am! And I desperately hope that Harry Potter will get people interested in the authors I adore right now, and a revival of YA fantasy is always a good thing!
