  1. My Harry Potter has been shipped. Alas, it is shipping from the UK because I am insane, and thus, it won't get here for another few days or so. Alas. See, all my other Harry Potters are the UK edition (I got 3 and 4 in Japan and 5 in Taiwan and found 1 and 2 in the used bookstore here), and it irritates me if everything doesn't match. Of course, 5 is the hardcover while 1-4 are paperback, but I shall ignore that. I am strangely not that excited about the new Harry Potter, but I am happy for those of you who are gleefully reading your own copies ;).

  2. I just started rereading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I am rather astonished to find that I only read it once, when it came out, and I hardly remember what happened at all! Also, Harry talks in many capital letters.

  3. Cockamamie predictions for book 6: Dumbledore dies. Neville gets a bigger role (please? I like Neville!). Someone betrays Harry to Voldemort. More girls in the plot! The war against Voldemort gets started. I have no idea about any of these, but I think they'd be fun to read about. Oh, more Snape backstory?

  4. [livejournal.com profile] yhlee is here! So far we have watched many, many vids, and she is going to show me Veronica Mars now! Joy! More later.

  5. Starbucks has green tea frappucinos now!!!! I am so excited! This was my favorite thing ever a couple of years ago when I was working in Hong Kong, and they have them in Taiwan, and they taste just like green tea ice cream, which I love, and I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for them to finally come here! Go support so they get put on the menu permanently so I can have them all the time! ;) Alas, I got a coffee frappucino this morning because I need my dose of caffeine, but I am getting one later today. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, green tea frappucino!

  6. My rats are fuzzy! Er, not that this is news or anything. But I would just like to point out that they are still cute.

Dude, it is all about getting the UK versions. americanisation=wrongness

Rereading Order of the Phoenix finally made me actually interested to see what would be next in canon. I've gotten sucked into fanfic and was rereading the whole series, esp. Order of the Phoenix, primarily to firm up my grounding in canon 'cause i was encountering fanfic that dealt with characters/plot points i had forgotten. I have every intention of reading the book in as close to a single sitting as i can as soon as it arrives, but that's less from excitement than it is from a desire to be able to engage in the discussions (and no longer have to fear spoilers -- though i read Order of the Phoenix 5 months after it came out and was still completely unspoiled, and only saw The Death mentioned outside a spoiler-cut for the first time about a year after that, though admittedly i've never been particularly deep in HP fandom).

Yay, somebody else who is insane and gets the UK editions! The worst thing is that we're going to be gone next week, so even though I think it'll be here on Wednesday or Thursday, I still won't get my hands on it until Sunday evening.

When I went over to visit my parents today, their copy (of the US edition) was sitting on the dining room table. It took immense self-control not even to pick it up, let alone crack it. Happily, somebody eventually took pity on me and put a copy of Martha Stewart Living on top of it, whereupon I managed to ignore it successfully.

I believe the Canadian HP version is the same as the UK version, and I assume that would save on shipping, at least. Though there must be some differences, such as having Bloomsbury and Raincoast books on the spine.

I prefered the American covers for the first 3 books or so (and then i kinda stopped paying attention) which i think a lot of people do -- i read an article about a couple who bought the British editions for the text and the American editions for the covers, and i remember an interview with JKR maybe after Book 3 in which she said the American covers were her favorites; she said she also really liked i think the Spanish and Dutch covers too.

When i reread Books 1-5 last week (http://www.livejournal.com/users/hermionesviolin/534573.html), a friend commented, "I, too, find that I like fanon Hermione and my personal Hermione a lot more than I like the actual character. Then again, I think JKR's real strength is in the world creation and background, not the actual storytelling, so that's probably why. The IDEA of Hermione is so much more interesting than Hermione actually turns out to be."
