Played much Cranium today with sister and her friends and the boy. Much laughing ensued. I love these types of games -- Trivial Pursuit, charades, all the guessing games. I'm always sad because lots of my friends are too "cool" or whatnot to play them with me =(.

Good news: the used bookstore I gave my resume to called me back! Am going in to talk to them tomorrow afternoon -- all fingers are crossed.

And thanks to Salon.com's series of documents of freedom, I'm now rereading Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter From a Birmingham Jail. Reading him always gives me chills and reminds me that apathy is the greatest crime of all. Unfortunately, I generally don't remember this and submit myself. But this expresses perfectly why I hate the people who say things like there is no more need for feminism because we're all equal now. Or that PCness is just stupid and that I shouldn't take offense at well-meant jokes targeting other races or nationalities. Because as King says, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Murphy is god.

At least of my life...

So I showed up at the interview on time, and the people at the counter at the bookstore told me they'd go find the guy I was supposed to talk to. They say he's still with the last person, and I stand there and wait. And wait. And wait. About forty-five minutes later, I ask again, and the guy at the counter goes off to look for the interviewer guy. Turns out interviewer showed up and asked some people for me, but for some reason, no one directed him to me. I started talking to him and then realized that the job he was describing was not the one I was applying for... but then he said that the requirements for this position weren't so much mandatory as recommendations, so I asked if I could be interviewed for this position as well. But then, he didn't have much time to interview me because of the beginning bit. So I'm supposed to go in tomorrow and talk to him again. Then they tell me that the guy at the San Jose branch, who's doing the position I actually applied for, might be coming in in about half an hour, would I like to wait? I say sure, and park myself down with a book (had no foresight to bring a book, but was in the middle of a giant used bookstore, yay). And about half an hour later, the other guy shows up, explains that he doesn't have time to talk to me, but that he'll get my resume from the other people and call me tomorrow. He also said he hadn't started calling people in yet.

So yeah... no idea. At least the first guy seemed happy that I was pretty sure I wanted to be in the book business for good. And he told me a bit about the industry. Neither of the jobs pays well, but the Mountain View one is book buying. For used books, but I figure it's a thing that all bookstore people will need to know. Plus, experience good. And the other one seems to be a good entry level job with promises of advancement, even though advancement is generally slow. That's ok with me I think so far. The entry level pays about 8/hr and the other is 12-18/hr depending on the skills of the person. Fingers are still crossed.

The people seemed really nice too.

Other notes: I got shoes on sale! They are nice and beige. Good work/dress shoes. Strappy back, closed toed front. I like them, and considering that they're closed toe high heels, they're remarkably comfortable. I am also getting my sister addicted to Sharon Shinn. Ha. I knew she would like them. Then me and Ning and the boy baked more applesauce bars because the ones I baked yesterday are already all gone and oatmeal raisin cookies.
