oyceterHouseparties weekend! Formals night was kind of boring. Good food, then long period of nothing to do until the band started. So me and the boy skipped out and watched X2.
I think I liked it. I'm not sure if I liked it more or less than the first one. They're really started to crowd the characters, and I was sad that Rogue didn't get much time, and the time Logan did get felt somewhat... artificial? Dunno why. Also, was I the only one who didn't get why Jean Grey couldn't just fly the plane and stop the flood from inside the plane?? She's telekinetic! Place shouldn't matter!
I've never really followed X-Men, but I know a little, and every time Jean started with her powers, I kept thinking, "Phoenix!" and expecting the huge spirit phoenix shape to pop up over her head. Looks like X3 will be on that (hopefully Dark Phoenix, woohoo!)!! Liked movie!Bobby Drake better. Liked them sticking Gambit's name above Magneto's in the database, Hank McCoy on TV, and the references and shots of Shadowcat and Jubilee. Yay! They also aren't really including any of the comics X-Men that I was interested in: Emma Frost, Kitty Pryde, Remy.
Loved how Magneto escaped. Didn't feel sad at all for Jean, because, Phoenix! Was mostly indifferent to Nightcrawler and the weird Nightcrawler/Storm thing. And hey, look, I'm growing a slash subtext detector! There's going to be so much Logan/Scott comfort fic after this! Even I could see it in those scenes! And I want to read it, especially if it's dirty and ugly and really really painful. I'm all for the angst. I think that's what I kind of miss about Spuffy -- the sheer painful rawness of it.
Semiformals were good... I wore my skimpy $11 red dress ^_^. I'll post pictures of the entire weekend Monday, hopefully. And dinner was soooo good! Looking very forward to lawnparties tomorrow, in which I will hopefully get happily tipsy and listen to music all day.

bonibaru's LJ: Why hating slash is homophobia. Not quite sure what I think. Will maybe write on this later, after this crazy weekend is over. Although the thesis is turned in, still want to somehow tie together yaoi/shonen ai and slash, because I find these arguments immensely interesting and thought provoking.

slashphilosophy = entire community dedicated to discussing things about queer theory, how slash fits in, and etc. Sweet. Am I strange because I find this fascinating even though I don't really read slash?
