So... about a month late, but I like doing these yearly things.

I present to you, the New Year's meme, version 2004.

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?

Got health insurance. Quit my first job. Starting sharing an apartment with the boy. Got in my first car accident (ugh) and dealt with car insurance. Got pet rats! Voted for the first time ever! (Wow, I document a lot of my life in LJ)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't make them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Sort of... define "close."

5. What countries did you visit?

Taiwan and lovely, lovely Italy! And a brief pitstop in London.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?

Hee, this is last year's: More money! Or a cheaper but just as nice apartment. Or both. Or a promotion as seen in wages.

Amazingly, I have more money, thanks to the new job. And thanks to the new apartment and splitting costs with the boy, it is both cheaper and nicer. And the new job is sort of a promotion via wages.

This year (since this seems to work), I would like a stable brain (depression-wise), a bit more of an inkling as to what I want to do in life, and more friends to hang out with like [livejournal.com profile] fannishly

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

December 6th, the big website launch date at my company. I don't know why that particular date is stick in my head, but it is.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I got a new job with health insurance which doesn't bore me to death and has some pretty nice people. Also, I sold my first article (a book review)!! Amusingly, I am more proud of selling the book review than I am of getting the shiny new job.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I still don't know what I'm doing with my life. Relapsed depression-wise during the job search and am still undergoing it.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

See above. Luckily, I was uninjured in the car accident.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My rats! I feel sort of weird thinking of them as purchases, but I paid/donated to the rat adoption people, so I guess that is sort of buying. And they are awesome and cute and ratty and have funny whiskery noses and OMG SO CUTE!

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent. Duh. Outside of the necessities, books books and books. Just like last year.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Getting another job! Selling my dinky book review! Getting my rats! Meeting [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and [livejournal.com profile] fannishly in RL and hanging out with them!

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?

Probably Grey Eye Glances' "Halfway Back" because it was on constant repeat during the last legs of the job hunt.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

Happier or sadder? Overall, happier. Actually, maybe not, given that the first half of 2004 was spent in job hunting misery. Hrm.
Older or wiser? Um. We hope we are wiser... we have our doubts though
Thinner or fatter? I think about the same *crosses fingers*
Richer or poorer? Richer, joy! I am very mercenary. Money buys me books and clothes and food. I like that stuff.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Made more friends. Though I am not quite sure how I would have done that.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Same as last year: Being in a depressed funk. Course, wasn't like I had that much choice in the matter.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

At home with my family! With a giant dinner among very old friends! It was good. And my sister even put up the tree.

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?

Stayed in love.

23. How many one-night stands?

Nope, see above.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Good Eats! And Joan of Arcadia. And a lot of ice skating. And the Olympics.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Er, I am mightily irritated by a lot of people, but I don't hate anyone per se.

26. What was the best book you read?

Really, how am I supposed to just limit this to a line? Indeed, I have an entire post on it.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Grey Eye Glances, Ryan Adams, Sondheim's Assassins.

28. What did you want and get?

Cute rats. Health insurance. A corporate job. Cool people to hang out and talk with.

LOL, this is last year's: A non-corporate job.

29. What did you want and not get?

Direction in life. Being un-depressed.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Loved.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

23 years now. I yelled at the boy for being away on my birthday for the third year in a row, spent an evening with people in the apartment complex, then had myself a movie musicals festival. Went out on the next day to SF with [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and Alex and had a lot of fun. It was actually pretty good, as my birthdays go (I have low birthday expectations... summer-baby complex).

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Having even more friends! I am greedy and want lots and lots. Also, being not depressed.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?

Really plain and practical in the beginning because of work at the bookstore, and now more corporate, because of the new job. But still very fobby throughout. Fob pride!

34. What kept you sane?

The boy, LJ, LJ friends, books. The usual.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Johnny Depp.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Argh, elections.

37. Who did you miss? (in no particular order)

My family, being in Taiwan, the boy while he was away in Italy.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

LJ people in RL! *waves* to [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and [livejournal.com profile] fannishly

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:

Having friends is really, really wonderful. Also, job searching is hellacious.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Der. No idea.

And, just for fun, last year's answers.
