Seen on quite a few people's LJs.

1. How far have you been willing to travel to attend a fannish event?

Er, so far, to Los Gatos for a board meet. Ha, that's the only one I've really been to.

2. How far have you gone in trying to save a show or to get a sequel?

Um. I donated some money to the LA food bank thing as part of the Save Angel campaign because I figured it was a good thing to do. Generally, I am too lazy (everyone's going to jump me now). It took a lot of effort just to send an email to my congresspeople via the ACLU website on issues very important to me, so shows? Laziness triumphs.

3. How far have you been willing to overspend on one particular fannish item?

DVDs. Gah. So much money!

4. How far have you been willing to go tracking down a rare fannish item?

I'm actually not that big on collecting fannish items nowadays. I suspect this is because I spent waaaay too much money on Gundam Wing stuff back in the day.

5. How far have you gone to try and pimp someone into a fandom?

I actually try not to deliberately push my shows on to other people unless they've already showed a glimmer of interest. Most of this is because in general, I react very poorly to things pushed on me by people who mean well but do not understand my taste at all. So yeah, all those people who kept trying to convince me that Robert Jordan's latest book was good and I should catch up on the series, not much hope there. But I did manage to get one friend pretty hooked on the Buffyverse and some more people interested in GWing through sheer force of my excitement. And I introduced one friend to the wonders of XF fanfic. And I make the boy watch with me.

Ha, all in all, I am apparently not very fannish at all.

Which latest book?

I don't even particularly like the series, and Winter's Heart was frankly dreadful. Not even touching the prequel book thingy.

I stop by the FAQ once in a while, because it has all the amusing conspiracy theories (I think in some respects it'd make a better fantasy roleplaying game setting than a series setting) and I have a friend who's fanatically devoted to it. But so many things about WHEEL OF TIME give me hives it ain't even funny. There were fun bits in the first 3 books, but after that the thing just falls off a cliff. I, too, am disinclined to read further, or God help me, reread. Ditto my sister. You are not alone. :-)

I think of myself as rather obsessively fannish, but i don't own any merchandise save the few things i have asked for as gifts. (The DVDs will be my college graduation present.) I'm really not much of a material goods person. Going to cons has never been worth the time/money since i have rather limited quantities of both.

I think of myself as obsessive because i know episodes by title, know the names of the actors and what else they have done, have long discussions about episodes and plot arcs and character development and so on, enjoy consuming and creating icons and fic, am forever referencing things to Whedonverse. I think of myself as obsessive because so much of my time/brain is taken up by the fandom.

I like sucking people into things i like, but i don't like people trying to force me into things or thinking they know my taste when really they don't, so i try hard to not do that to other people.

Oh, i lied. I bought the OMWF soundtrack with my own money. Forgot about that.

But yeah, we can be obsessively fannish without spending money.

The official one is really only worth having as a completist thing. They cut out all the dialogue, which is sometimes okay but sometimes really takes away from the songs. A friend burned me a CD of all the songs ripped from the show after it aired so it has all the dialogue. I listened to it obsessively and then bought the official one when it was finally released and was disappointed. E-mail me your snail mail address and i'll send you a copy.
