Yay! I have rats!

One is a black one with some beige speckling and a white tummy and socks (named him Fitz) and one is white with a black hood and a little black stripe down his back (Fool-rat).

Fitz is bigger and braver and more excitable and so far Fool-rat seems quieter and cleaner.

And Fool-rat almost has a Fool's motley ^_^.

They sound cool. I used to have a rat a long time ago but...now I have cats so not into rats so much *g*.

But they stare at me from their cage and want me to play with them! How can I resist the beady eyes ;).

Yeah, I really want a cat too (the boy's cats don't seem to be much into chasing rodents), but the apartment doesn't allow it, sigh.

I liked CoC okay - I'm not a big fan of Bujold overall. I liked the main character (Cazaiel? something like that?) but thought the story got lost in amidst all the world-building and other characters.

Ben? *confused* Ahh, my lack of pop culture knowledge is showing ;).

CoC's actually the first Bujold I've read. I like Cazariel, but strangely, I felt the world-building got lost among the characters and the story! Didn't have a really good sense of what made the world tick outside of the five-fold religion bit. And I think Bujold lets them all off too easily, which is where I think it really suffers in comparison with Hobb. It's hard after reading the emotional climax of Fool's Fate to bring myself to really worry about Cazariel, esp. when it gets pretty clear that Bujold isn't going to be too mean to anyone.

Remember the Crispin Glover remake of the movie with rats? The original had a theme song that Michael Jackson sang ;).

I'd have to agree about Bujold really not wanting anything bad to happen. After reading these books, I decided not to check out her other series partially because of that. I do think that the story did get too populated in the latter half and I got tired of trying to keep everyone separated as well as what god was doing what when. Gah. It was like reading David Eddings - but with better humor.

Gah! Willard! Gotcha. I probably wasn't that movie's target audience, as my general reaction to the preview was: "Awww, look at the cute rats!"

My friend keeps telling me to read the Miles V-I-can't-spell-the-rest sci-fi series, but I'm not sure...

There were parts in which I was caught up, like when she killed off Dondo and Teidez (which was around midnight and kept me going past bedtime), and the entire bit about Ista and dy Lutez, but other than that, too fuzzy.

Ignore Crispin Glover. Go for the rats. Heh. I like it :).

I've looked at the Vorkosigian (I think that's it) series and haven't been too impressed. Plus, it keeps reminding me of that Honor Harrington series which I *hate* (talk about your Mary Sue!).

And you're doing better than me. I can't even remember hardly any one's name anymore. Then again, my head's too full of Fitz and the Fool. I even started re-reading Assassin's Apprentice and made a vid in my head for the two of them *g*.

Ok, I think you just turned me off to the entire series right there ;). I've actually never read Honor Harrington, but after hearing one of my friends rave about it so much, I figured I would probably hate it -- said friend (different one than the one who recced Vorkosigian) like Lackey and McCaffrey and Jordan etc.

Eee, vid!!! What song? I'm definitely hunkering down for a reread of Tawny Man soon. Guh, I really desperately want to read some sort of fanfic that takes place in the future, but I also desperately don't want to... it's like reading Sandman fanfic. I like the writing and the voice of the author too much already, and anyone else who does it just sounds wrong to me. So really, the only solution is some Misery-style thing to get Robin Hobb to do it ;).

Yup, it's bad. Honor Harrington is a total and complete Mary Sue. Check out the LJ community "canonsues" and I think there is an entry for her in there as well. It goes into much greater detail than what I can remember from what I tried to read.

I did a vid in my head to Queen's "Too Much Love Will Kill You". *g*

I want fanfic and I don't. Hobb's voice is so distinctive that I don't want to entangle it with another voice - even my own. But...we need more Fitz and the Fool! *checks around for deserted cabin and other necessary Misery-like implements* I'm right behind ya!
