WAH! Why Jesus man? I like him!

Now I'm going to be more grumpy about Cedric, which I didn't want to be. I like him, he seems like a good kid, and it's totally not his fault that people gave him the sympathy vote. But seriously, voting people! WTF? Sympathetic is good and all, but Cedric really isn't that great of a dancer outside of hip hop, and if he'd gotten cut, he would have gotten a free scholarship to dance school and probably have been able to learn a lot more there, as it wouldn't be quite as intense or as fast paced.

My favorite routines from Wed. were Jamie and Hok's absolutely amazing jazz routine. I heart Wade Robson (the choreographer) so much. Nigel Lythgoe made a point later that often people at home vote for the choreography, but oh well. That really was a brilliant piece, danced gorgeously. It's supposedly the love story of a hummingbird and a flower, and it's strange and odd and gives me the same sense of creepiness and wonder that things like The Nightmare Before Christmas do. I also adored Dominic and Sabra's rumba. The dance itself wasn't that spectacular, but I'm still amazed that Dominic is dancing like that coming out of b-boying! I mean, look at his hips! Look at his frame! It's not perfect, of course, but it's pretty damn good. And Sabra -- I just love watching her. She's not flashy, but her technique is great, and she's so careful with how she moves her body.

I loved Anya and Danny's hip-hop routine, how smoothly they danced it, the nifty little bits like the piano playing throughout and how both of their bodies just look so fluid. And, as always, Kameron and Lacey were fun to watch, even though they were dancing quickstep, which most people don't dance all that well. But oh! The twenties outfits! The hair! The bits of jitterbug and almost-Charleston stuck in there! They made it look fun.

The other couples didn't impress me that much, or I just forgot the routines. And, um... I actually called in to vote this week, because I am just that dorky! I had to debate who I should vote for, because I loved the routines above, and I also like Jesus and Sara, and I like Pasha too, but I ended up voting for Dominic and Sabra. Dominic because I'm having so much fun watching him take on all these different styles, and Sabra because she's my favorite female dancer. Also, I figured lots of people would vote for Kameron and Lacey and for Danny and Anya. Alas, I was wrong about the latter. And while I really like Hok's personality, I don't actually think he and Jamie are the best dancers on the show.

But yes. I do wish that the judges had cut Neil instead of Jesus in the results show, just because, well, Neil really sucks at ballroom. And he didn't dance that wonderfully in two out of his three routines. And I think Jesus can do more styles than he can. (I am sure the judges are biased toward Danny, but honestly, I am too, because he dances and moves like no one else.)

Also, I am completely biased because Jesus is nice and I actually enjoy seeing his little interview segments on the show.

Siiiigh.

Oh! And oh! I so want them to do a lindy hop routine! So much! I'll take jitterbug/East Coast Swing as well, but c'mon! Lindy!

And so, to spam everyone, because I have been randomly watching things on YouTube instead of doing programming, dance clips!

This one from Dancing with the Stars I am putting in because I am a total snob and use this to say why I like SYTYCD better. It just frustrates me watching the professionals dance circles around the stars, and I keep wanting to yell at the lead here to pick his feet up! Kick some more! Something! Um, yes.

And here's a clip from Hellzapoppin', an old lindy film from the forties. I am amazed! I could swear that they aren't actually dancing that fast, because they look like they're being fast-forwarded! But as comparison, here's the fast lindy showdown in some competition. I love it because it's got the feel of the lindy jam circle that's always there in social dancing events, and because it's not choreographed. That's what amazes me -- these people are just leading and following. And they've probably worked a lot of things out beforehand and have danced together multiple times, but still. And here are the "medium-tempo" lindy finals. I am amused because this speed would be considered really fast by most people.

Um, so sorry to be spamming people so much about dancing lately. But I have discovered the wonders of YouTube and procrastination.

I keep meaning to discover the wonders of procrastination, but I can't seem to get around to it.
