EEEEEEE! Heroes is back!!!! And still awesome!
EEEEEEE! Where to start, where to start?
I'm still wanting more from the DL/Niki/Jessica/Micah storyline; it looks like it's really going to heat up in the next few episodes though. That said, ouch to Jessica's "You just can't get work because you're a black ex-con." I mean, given today's society, probably true, but still, ouch! At least someone is pointing out the stereotype DL is on the surface. Beneath the surface, though, I really like that he's the warm parental figure for Micah right now while Jessica is the dangerous fun one; it's a nice inversion of the threatening black man and the motherly white woman. And oh, of course I should have known that even Jessica wouldn't have brought Micah to Linderman.
Mr. Bennet teams up with Matt and Ted! Awesome! Ted can do EMPs! Even more awesome! Look Ted! You can do things other than kill people! Also, I love that they stop at Charlie's diner and that Matt has information that Mr. Bennet doesn't. And I totally cracked up at Matt's glee: "You're just some schlub! You're middle management!" That kicks ass and hearkens back toward Matt's quite probably resentment of middle management in the LAPD.
And, oh, Claire. She's just getting tossed around, isn't she? The Haitian seems to have faded back into the background again; I'm hoping he'll show up, finally with his own agenda, not as a pawn of Mr. Bennet's or as a henchman for Mrs. Petrelli. Though I'm curious to see what Mrs. Petrelli's power is...
And Peter! Hair slicked back, hee! I was wondering why his regenerative powers didn't kick in earlier; I didn't think about the glass shard still being in there, just like Claire and the twig. Her pulling it out and the entire staging of the scene reminded me of Sleeping Beauty waking from a hundred-year sleep when the thorn is pulled out, uh, if Sleeping Beauty were a young modern white guy. And the prince were a blonde cheerleader.
Claire just looked so heartbroken when Nathan said he couldn't bring her out, not now.
Mohinder! Eep! I hope he destroyed the List as forethought! Also, haha, apparently he has now joined the SPN cabal of women on the ceiling, though thankfully, he never got set on fire. And poor guy, being shooed out of the Petrelli household before he could even meet Claire. He knows about Claire, right? For some reason, I remember Mr. Bennet telling him.
And oh... Isaac. I really liked you even though I know other people thought you were sort of boring. You were cute once you got clean and interesting when you weren't in the Love Triangle of DOOM. Clearly it is a Love Triangle of DOOM, as two of the sides have now died (of course, both of them are the POC, wargh). But I'm glad you got to be a hero even then. Also, I am really hoping that one of the things that Hiro and Ando have to do to stop the bomb is to bring you back. Wait. Aren't Isaac and Simone in Peter's future-vision of the bomb going off? The show isn't going pull a giant timeskip backwards, is it? That would be so cool!
I loved his moments at the beginning and the Asian (?) geek guy (yay more POC random casting, boo potential stereotype). I am totally fanwanking the potential stereotype to say that Asian geek guy is so enthusiastic about Hiro because he is an Asian geek and loves comics and never sees himself represented there and therefore loves Ninth Wonders even more because of that. So there. Neener.
But yes, I was watching and realizing that we're circling back to the pilot, Hiro and Isaac, the gun on the floor, Hiro too late once again. And maybe too late many more times to come. I really really really do hope that the key to stopping the bomb is keeping Isaac alive; it would be nice to have less dead POC.
Also, can I say just how much this keeps reminding me of anime and manga?! Linderman wants to destroy the world so he can save it! And he grows plants! Clearly he is Fuuma! And there is a timeskip! Ok, obviously this all applies to western comics too. But I love how you can tell the creators are such comics geeks; we're getting flashbacks and AUs and visions of things to prevent all over the place and it is awesome!
And finally: FUTURE HIRO SQUEEEEE! OMG TIMESKIP ARC SQUEE!
Class notes: not much that I can think of, except that the lower class (non-middle class? lower-middle class?) cabal of Matt and Ted have met up with the dreaded Middle Management. *snork* And that Jessica reads as more upper-middle class than Niki does, because hey, yay illegal income and snazzy clothes.
Gender notes: Alas, not much with gender. Though I'm glad more and more of the women are finally meeting and making contact; it's still very clearly a guy's world out there, with one woman among a crowd of men in nearly all the locations. Also,
laurashapiro's had qualms about hyper-competent manly-man future Hiro and what it say about what you have to be to be a hero (gruff and macho and male); I'm hoping things play out differently in the next episode, but I'm not sure they will.
Race notes:See above re: death of Isaac. Siiiiiiigh. DL and Mohinder didn't have much to do this episode either, though possibly Micah will have big things to do next ep. And of course we have rich white man being elected. I fanwank and say Linderman manipulated this because rich white men have a much larger chance to win, except it's in Isaac's paintings too.
ETA: Oh! And I meant to note that there was a cool conversation in the comments of my Heroes and race post in which people were wondering who was the protagonist, and I was skippy happy because Hiro is obviously the protagonist of Isaac's comic book. Hee.
