I wasn't too impressed with volume 4 in general; the entire subplot about Hyoue being paranoid about his kindan would have been much more interesting to me without the school play.
But then... the payoff! I adore volume 5. I mean, it has long-haired, wild Hyoue! But better yet, it has large-eyed, silent Amane, who is so small and cute and scared and solemn. She chucks golden balls at Hyoue's head! She is silenced because she is wounded and trying to contain her grief! Older Amane uses kotodama on herself to stop being scared!
Awwwwww.
Hyoue hugging Amane in the end and remembering that she's always had a hard time crying embodies why I love this series so much.
