So I got some comments back from my advisor yesterday, and it looks as though there are going to be some major rewrites in order. *sigh* And she pointed out many parts where my argument is weak, or I'm repetitive and don't make much sense, which I did know. Most of the parts she commented on I knew were problems, but I still hate getting this type of comment back. I know it's helpful and improves my writing and my thesis, which is what everyone wants, but there's still this part of me that just wants to quibble and not take the criticism. Anyway, all of this makes me so much less eager to write the Utena chapter. I'm so bad about dealing with criticism.
And in a completely different subject, my roommate and I have an ongoing bet type thing as to what will happen on the end of Buffy. She thinks that Buffy and Spike will die, that Buffy will acknowledge that she feels something for Spike, though it won't be love, and that Buffy and Angel will have a moment that will let him move on in his own series.
Mine are here:
Anya's going to die -- EC has made it pretty clear she doesn't want to continue the character, and I can't help but see the makeup/breakup sex with Xander as a great way to let her sacrifice herself for him ala the Gift. Also, she hasn't done much this season after Selfless. And I think they need to kill off a Scooby to do the big tragic thing that Joss seems to be hinting at, because honestly, I don't care enough about the Potentials.
Buffy's going to stay alive and get unChosen -- I can't see them killing Buffy again. Especially after the Gift. And lots of things this season seem to be pointing toward knowing more about her own Slayerness. Plus there was that telling statement in Get It Done on her being the last guardian of the Hellmouth. Which leads me to...
The Hellmouth will be closed -- see above. And if there's a spinoff, it can then be divorced from Sunnydale
There will be Spuffy -- Buffy's treating Spike almost exactly like she was treating Angel in season 3. She's letting him be the issue that sets her apart from her friends and from Giles; right now, it seems as though he is the most important thing to her. And while I never thought it would happen when I was watching Helpless, there's Cassie's thing to Spike. And there's the fact that the First seems to really really really not want Spike and Buffy together. Also, since I'm lightly spoiled for eps. 20 and 21, it seems as though Spike and Buffy are going to get nice tender scenes. I don't think the kiss with Angel is going to be that big, or if it is, I think it'll be because the First is still trying to keep Buffy and Spike apart. I'm also not sure if it'll actually be Angel, seeing as how the Angel eps look very busy.
Spike isn't going to die -- just for practical reasons... JM's got a huge fan base, and he seems very willing to do a spinoff type event.
Lots of Potentials will die, oooo big surprise (I hope Kennedy! But I doubt that anyone will put Willow through another dead girlfriend, gah)
For Angel, I read
jennyo's entry and I think she called it. All the hints about the changes in directions, with the PtB looking sketchier all the time, and the complete decimation of W&H all leads to it, I think.
