Five favorite Buffy/Angel actors for [livejournal.com profile] hysteriachan:

1. Alexis Denisof! Alexis Denisof! Brooding Wes, geeky Wes, dorky Wes, dark Wes, sexy Wes, all good stuff!

2. Juliet Landau, because I love Dru and the dreamy way she goes about things.

3. The guy who played Holtz. I just liked his voice. It was smooth and deep and incredibly creepy, and he's one of my favorite villains.

4. Amy Acker. I don't actually like Fred that much because of the way all the characters reacted to her, but I really like what Amy Acker did with her. And S5 as well, of course.

5. The guy who played the Mayor.

Yes, I am actually not naming people who played my favorite characters, just because... I guess I tend to see them more as the characters instead of the actors or something.

Five best fictional friendships for [livejournal.com profile] gwyneira

This is heavily influenced by what I can think of at the moment, so I'm probably missing a whole lot of friendships that I adore.

1. Cecelia and Kate, from Sorcery and Cecelia. They're close cousins who write letters to each other about magical exploits and fashions... they fight crime! I love also how the friendship is central to the book, despite romantic entanglements. Also, I am a sucker for epistolary books.

2. Komatsu Nana and Oosaki Nana, from Nana. They're complete opposites who met on a train to Tokyo, and yet end up living together and being close friends. I love how both Nanas try to support each other, and again, how the manga privileges friendship over romance, because while you can live without romance, you can't live without a close friend. (well, at least I can't)

3. Early Angel, Cordy and Wes, from Angel. I love the bickering and the feeling of family, I love how they're all outcasts from Sunnydale who manage to bond with each other. I love how they're each all they've got in the big city of LA.

4. Sanzo, Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo, from Saiyuki. Yeah, there are extremely, extremely, extremely slashy bonds between them, but I also love them as ... unwilling friends or comrades, or something. Again, it's like the Angel-Cordy-Wes love, the feeling of family, of a group of people with horrible pasts trying to make up for things, the bickering and the snarking and the (very deeply) buried affection and willingness to sacrifice. Guh.

5. Veronica and Wallace, from Veronica Mars, which I adored from the very first bit about her tough outer exterior hiding a... slightly less tough outer exterior. And I adore that there isn't the romantic vibe and Veronica's protectiveness of Wallace and Wallace's willingness to help and just be there.

I wanted more female-female friendships in here, but sadly, I can't think of any that I really adore in which a romantic relationship doesn't get in the way =(. Hopefully it's just because my memory's really bad.

Five favorite restaurants for [livejournal.com profile] gwyneira:

I'm actually changing this from "five best restaurants" to "five favorites," because yes, there is a difference, and I don't know how to rate the best restaurants and then I start feeling like I should give the totally haute cuisine, expensive nouveau French type restaurants top billing. And yeah, they are wonderfully good and I like them an awful, awful lot, but they aren't necessarily my favorites. And I wouldn't say that my little hole-in-the-wall place is the best restaurant I've been to, but I go there all the time, so that means something, yeah?

1. Din Tai Feng - a popular place for baozi and dumplings and all sorts of things wrapped in dough and steamed in Taipei. It's always incredibly crowded (lots of Japanese tourists), but they have amazing food. Finely chopped veggie dumplings, red bean paste buns with paper thin skin that you have to pick up carefully lest they break, the best chicken noodle soup I've ever had. And they're most famous for their shaio long bao (little dragon buns?), which are small steamed pork buns in that paper thin skin, steamed. The cool thing is that shiao long bao have juices inside of them, so you dip them in vinegar and take a bite and have hot, tasty juice and meat in your mouth all at once.

2. Palo Alto Creamery and Grill - maybe it's not fancy eats, but they have the best hamburger I've had, on a toasted roll that wonderfully soft but not mushy. I almost never get anything on it except lettuce, tomato and ketchup, because the burger itself is so good. Also, they have shakes that will feed three people and are so thick that I was scared I got dry socket when I drank one with a straw when I got my wisdom teeth out.

3. Barefoot Coffee Roasters - Again, not really a restaurant, but it's my favorite cafe in the world. Also, they roast all their own beans (all fair use). I found it because that's where my knitting group meets, and I adore that they have a giant book of free books from BookCrossing, local art on the walls, and baristas who really know what they're doing and have always been friendly and suggest things to me. Also, anywhere that has a drink like Red Rum (dark chocolate, espresso, and a hint of cayenne pepper) has got to be a good place.

4. La Fondue - Fondue! Expensive, so I can't go there too often, but honestly, how am I supposed to pass up food on a stick! I love playing with my food ^_^.

5. All my Taiwan restaurants. So I cheat... I can't think of anything specific off the top of my head, but this is all the roadside stands and all the hole-in-the-wall noodle places, from the place near ChingHua Univ. that has killer dohwa (this sort of soy bean dessert thing... tastier than it sounds, I swear!) to the little egg cake stand in downtown Hsinchu that has the crispiest and hottest cakes to the fried chicken stand in Long Shan to Ice Monster (the shaved ice place). Oh yeah, good stuff.
