Knitting News
Mon, Jul. 11th, 2005 11:55 amI have conquered the i-cord! Fear me and my knitting needles!
Actually, it took an embarrassingly long time to figure out exactly what the books were talking about. I kept knitting and knitting and just ending up with a normal 3-stitch-wide strap, which was in no way curling in on itself. I think the concept of actually (gasp) not switching needles when done with a row is foreign to my brain and confusing.
But! I am successful and have an i-cord! Truly it is the cutest thing ever! It's this little knitted tube, and every time I do a new row, I marvel at how it wraps in around itself and creates said tube. Why yes, Bob (the honest armadillo*), I do in fact enjoy the mathematical bits of knitting. /knitting geekery
* I have a stuffed animal named Bob. He is an armadillo. He is from Texas. He is indeed very honest. I think it's the eyebrows or something.
I couldn't figure out the finishing instructions for Sexie in Stitch 'N Bitch Nation, but as luck would have it, the contrasting color I was going to use doesn't match anyway, so I'm just going to skip the crocheted trim and keep the i-cord the same color as the top. Also, I am very irritated. I knew I had picked up an extra stitch somewhere along the way, which totally screwed up my lovely center row of yo-p2tog, but I just now disovered what exactly I did. Of course, I found this out about, oh say, 80 rows after!
I will just have to deal. And I used a different yarn and unfortunately forgot cotton is not nearly so stretchy as nylon ribbon, so the top is way too small. Alas.
Oh, also, I saw the funniest thing at the Ren Faire on Saturday! There was this little booth of guys at a forge making all sorts of neat forge-y things (different from forgery things, which I nearly typed). And they had hand-forged crochet hooks! So funny! I almost got one, except a) I was out of money and b) the guys who forged them didn't specify what the size was ;). Also also,
mizu_gami has the coolest crochet icon ever, titled "Hookers have more fun." Hee!
Also also also (I'm starting to feel like a middle school student doing the p.p.p.p.p.s. thing), I have been remiss and still not seamed the entirely too large hooded sweater (of doom! Everything is more funny with doom). The yarn is annoying and the garter stitch streeeeeeeeeetches out enormously, and now it will be way too big on my mom. Ha, this is my secret motivation for giving away all my early projects ;).
Er, does anyone know a good way to do tubular cast-on for 2x2 ribbing? My finishing book says that it's usually best for 1x1 ribbing and indeed, it does look weird with 2x2, but I like the whole look.
And! It's almost my birthday, which means I can finally use the money I saved up to buy myself the Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles kit! Yay saved up money!
