Wed, Jun. 9th, 2004 10:22 pmMade a trip out to The Book Rack in Menlo Park today and came out with a Megan Chance romance I hadn't read. Am quite happy about that, as I thought the only book of hers I hadn't read was the Susannah Morrow non-romance. Also made it out with like new copies of McKillip's The Changeling Sea, in the pretty new Firebird edition, and Margaret Mahy's Tricksters, which I've also been meaning to read. Now that I think about it, my "plan to read" list posted yesterday is woefully short....
Also went to Border's and got the JBz jellybean things! They are quite interesting, like flavored M&Ms. Interesting looking things included Sarah Micklem's Firethorn (ok, the premise didn't sound that interesting, but it had a pretty cover and good blurbs...) and, of course, the Firebird reissues of YA fantasy, which I perpetually ogle over and never get around to actually buying. Sigh. Just looked at the numbers in my bank account today, and really need to cut back on spending. Also there was Sorcery and Cecelia! Argh. I had previously decided to get it in hardcover because I really, really wanted to read it and it was never in any bookstore somehow, and now that I've decided to wait for the paperback, I find it! Murphy, I know it. Also, Shana Abe has a new romance out. I think I'll wait and borrow it or something though -- I loved her Secret Swan, read half of Rose at Midnight (or Rose of something or the other) and nearly chucked it against a wall. And there's the added factor that the book looks like three short stories, and I have discovered that in general, romance short stories are not my thing. I find it hard to have a satisfactory romance in the genre sense in so few pages... not enough time to build good characters or something.
There's a outdoor cat roaming about the apartment who followed us home and is quite cute. Unfortunately, said cat also caught sight of the rats and sniffed around their cage a bit. I think the rats are currently very traumatized -- they haven't ventured out in forever, and I even scattered peas in their cage. My rats are avoiding food! Something really must be wrong.
