Is LJ very quiet today because of taxes?

Also, now that I am obsessive-compulsively adding a "sequential art" category, as having "manhwa" under "manga" is just wrong, I have come to the conclusion that I blog way too much about manga.

And so, a poll!

[Poll #1171720]

Take it as a given that I am continuing to watch things I have already started. Also, I don't think I'm up for anything too serious right now, unless, of course, it is funnily so, like Snow Queen.

You should watch Emperor of the Sea and Hwang Jin Yi and Lovers for reasons I detailed in my LJ a few days ago.

And you should watch Dae Jang Geum because I haven't seen it yet and need more opinions. Ditto for Hong Gil Dong.

I voted for Bones. I'm in love with Bones. If only for an exchange from the second season (I think?) that went something like:

Angela: There seems to be writing on this, chinese characters.
Hodgins: What does it say?
Angela: I don't know
Hodgins: But you're part chinese!
Angela: *incredulous look* If I put a little Polish up here can you tell me what it says?

I <3 all of the characters, even Booth (though he fills me with rage at certain times) which is very rare in TV land. Hearty recommendation!

Bones is definitely fun if you want a light-hearted procedural. I ignore all the forensic anthropology bafflegab and just pay attention to the banter, which (at least starting midway through S1 and continuing through midway of S2, which is when I fell out of the show because I got too lazy to *ahem* it) is the highlight. Also, Bones has a great ensemble cast once it gels.

Also, Booth = David Boreanaz actually being able to act properly. He really inhabits the role, and it's a pleasure to watch. (Especially, the hair doesn't suck! *ahem*)

I've been *really* enjoying watching "Bones" on Hulu.com (i.e. legally! And without taking up my precious hard-disk space). It's not anything all that profound, but there's snappy banter and fun puzzles and a cute cast and it's excellent brain candy for those evenings after work when I'm too burned out to read.

Booth killed a clown. For this my love will never waiver.

An insanely tragic kdrama with incest, cancer, and identity mixups that I will rec in the comments

AHAHAHAHA!! But Oyce! That's, like, 1/4 of all Kdramas out there!

I watched "My Girl" in full a few months ago. It was OK but nothing special, IMO. The girl is cute but the love interest is 1) a prat and 2) boring. I don't know much about the rest of the Kdramas on the list, although I've heard good things about Dae Jang Geum from some people (including my 85-yo grandmother!)

I really liked Sandglass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandglass_(TV_series)) when I watched it something like 10 year ago, although it might be hard to find now. Talk about a sweeping epic. I remember being particularly impressed about the way it dealt with Gwangju demonstration/massacre, which was a big blemish on recent Korean history.

I still think there should be a MOAR KDRAMA option. You can always watch more kdramas.

Also Bollywood films. Start watching them!

This may sound patronising, but it's advice I'd give to myself, knowing my short attention span: the thing about Bollywood films is not to be intimidated by the length. Quite a lot of them have a handy intermission, so you can stop halfway through and watch in two parts. Also, a lot of films change gears (and occasionally, genres) half-way through.

I'm watching Omkara right now! As in, I saw about an hour of it yesterday, and I'm planning to finish it soon. I'd recommend it, particularly if you're familiar with Othello and can have fun figuring out how it's been adapted.

KKHH is your stereotypical 90's Bollywood romantic comedy, but it does it all so well. It was one of my first, and is a great intro to my favourite Indian actress, Kajol, and the phenomenon that is Shahrukh Khan. Even Rani Mukherji (Kajol's real life cousin! The dynastic nature of the filmi industry) is fantastic in the thankless role of getting in between the Kajol-SRK pairing.

Fanaa (as shown in my icon. The beautiful lady is Kajol, btw) is brilliant and goes from sweet romance to... well I won't spoil you but the second half is pure crack. The man in the icon is Aamir Khan, possibly my favourite Indian actor, and the star of Lagaan. If you want to see him in a non-romance focused film, I'd recommend Rang de Basanti. Another film where an English girl falls in love him.

Here (http://shewhohashope.livejournal.com/87130.html) are some of my favourite songs from a few of my favourite films. If you need a reason to watch Fanaa:

This is how I learned to say 'when you're close, the world is naught', and 'as close as secrets are to heartbeats, be that close to me, oh love of mine' in Hindi. If I ever go to a Hindi-speaking part of India, I will be the most cheesy flirt ever!

You can make up your own mind about Asoka here (http://shewhohashope.livejournal.com/86722.html). I've screencapped the whole film, so it's spoilery, but you can just look at the first few.

And an excellent beginner's guide by [profile] fivil here (http://fivil.livejournal.com/200637.html).

Krrish is the sequel to Koi Mil Gaya, and I must warn you, KMG is an ET ripoff, and has awful special effects. But Hrithik Roshan is hot enough, and a good enough actor to carry both films.

And I heartily recommend Dhoom:2, for many reasons. Mostly Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik's crazy chemistry.

I bet you wish you hadn't asked.

Yay, KKHH!

If you saw the video: when he's crying on her lap, he's saying 'let me cry today, there's a sea of pain waiting to burst from my heart, I have so much pain, your veil will be drenched.' Manly men are allowed to cry, AND to say shit like that. It's awesome.

I love KKHH, but I will not rest until you promise to see Fanaa as well. Look at my icon, does it not sway you? Do you not want to see a blind girl fall in love with a tour guide, leading to... other things?

I would have clicked a "MOAR KDRAMA" option. Also MOAR JDRAMA and MOAR CRACKY WUXIA options...

As well as Dae Jang Geum, you could watch (for something completely different), RH Plus, which is a 13 episode Japanese show about four pretty, young vampire boys who live in a big mansion and fight crime! (The three young ones at varying times seem in love with the eldest, as does the grandson of the eldest vampire's dead human boyfriend). It's funny and light hearted for the most part, with occasional forays into vampiric angst and vampire politics. It's based on a boys love manga, and is up on Veoh, here (http://www.veoh.com/channels/rh-plus).
